I think this is a great tribute to the studio.
"On what to do with Studio Ghibli's future, it is by no means impossible to keep producing [movies] forever. However, we will take a brief pause to consider where to go from here."
Hopefully this statement from producer Toshio Suzuki is correctly translated and true. The closing of one of the last bastions of hand-drawn animation would be incredibly sad.
Still a beautiful tribute, though!
Can't believe I've never realised that Ghibli production all have a girl as the main character.
Edit Sorry misheard the lyrics, she stated that the movies star Girls.***
Which subjectively means there not the main characters.

the main character of princess mononoke is a dude.
So many good memories from watching Studio Ghibli animations. Grave of the Fireflies and Spirited Away are without a doubt my two most favorite.
The Wind Rises is my favorite because airplanes

mine is Porco Rosso because biplanes
[sp]also the way those sailors made that arrow was pretty neat[/sp]
I'm not sure if my favourite is Totoro, Laputa, or the Nausicaa manga (okay that's cheating but it's fucking phenomenal fite me in rl).
The Nausicaa manga is kind of a cheat, but if anyone is a fan of the movie but has never read the graphic novels, you're not a Miyazaki fan until you do. You owe it to yourself. The movie was made before the manga was even finished, but even taking that into account, multiple subplots, a male sidekick/romantic interest, and an entire people and their culture were cut from the story for the sake of the available runtime. The antagonists in the manga have room to have a backstory and nuances to their motives unrolled, all of which was lost when they were compressed into generic asshole movie villains. And then there's the rest of the storyline after the movie's arc, which does not disappoint.
Viz republished it in two volumes recently. You will not regret it.
Laputa because it's a great movie, and I love how [sp]the alliances change, with enemies turning into trusted sidekicks or clueless tools manipulated by the real villain[/sp]. But I think the best thing I can say about it is, the first time I saw it was a fansub on VHS years before the Disney deal, and as a certain sequence in the middle of the movie [sp]robot laser hellpocalypse[/sp] was winding down, I got up and in my head was like, "Wow, that was a great movie, but they never made it... to.. what do you mean it's only half over?"
Totoro because, please, it's Totoro, and it was my first Ghibli film. But also the more heavy, powerful moments. [sp]Mei, I'm scared.[/sp]
Just typing the text in that spoiler made me instantly remember the music that plays during that scene. I've got goosebumps and I'm tearing up a bit. Probably gotta be Totoro.
Of note about the Nausicaa movie, it's not one of my favourites because it suffered badly from the adaptation from the manga (having read it), but this will always give me chills. [sp]"That person, wearing a blue robe, shall stand in a golden field..." *sniffle*[/sp]
