i despise all of these "if X was made today" videos
they're just stupid circle jerks
"Everything nowadays is worse in every way" is pretty much the point of the video. A pretty simple and false one.
haha modern games suck! am I right guys?
But we did get a modern Half-Life.

Im not one of those cunts who only likes retro games, I just thought the part about the tutorial was funny. I like it when games through you in and try to help you figure it out through smart level design instead of telling you how to do it. A good example of a modern game that does this right is the new Hitman, plenty difficult and the tutorial assumes you are smart.
Honestly I feel that it could've been funnier and by what it shows is that it's not only funny but it has insanely low and bad production. The entire joke is done to death by simply slapping some text over a HL1 Screen.
The other gags are meh as well, and there's no substance to the jokes as they don't explicitly show in a humorous fashion on how easy it actually is.
What is this garbage video holy shit it's the same jokes from this video

what if episode 3 were done

I was going to mention that. I hated the doom one as well because it was the same concept but they made a whole series out of it almost and dragged a halfway decent original joke around in the dust until there was nothing left.
Firetornado is the master of shit threads and shit taste. I've seen at least 10 shitty threads from him in the last week alone.

I hate my clones.
Incredible. A video that manages to say absolutely nothing
I thought the part with the splash screens was funny, until I realized it was going on for a whole minute. "I get the joke thank you! Move on please!"
saw the amount of disagrees, saw the video title, assumed fp was sad they called half life shit
nope, they did the exact opposite
What a joke, there are many examples of horrible Settings and Options in old games.
If anything it's GENERALLY better today even with all those horrible ports with no settings we get today.
Most settings you had back then were like:
Soundblaster, Port, IRQ...
And if you managed that as a child, congratulations you just earned SOUND in your game.
Or graphic menus that consisted only of: software, 3dfx, ddraw. That's not that far off from the joke settings in the video.
Game Settings mostly were not about optimizing the game to your liking but more like "please make it fucking work somehow"
Sure it's easy to poke fun at that DLC Shit in game menus and huge pop ups with hints for basically retarded people but not everything was better "back then"

Also I noticed a lot of games lacked any meaningful autosave system. One screw up could set you back potentially half an hour or even worse back to the start if you didn't bother to save.

Breaking both of your legs in Deus Ex with no medkit and a 2 hour old autosave HNNNNNNNNG
what even IS the trend in shooter games today? nobody really makes brown aim-down-sights army games anymore, and when they do nobody plays them. even Call of Duty and Battlefield are doing the exact opposite of each other
I'm going to be honest. The gameplay of Half Life and Hal Life 2 suck. Not that it detracts from the masterpieces that they are, but only nostalgia keeps them feeling good. Modern games just feel better.
I'be recently been play a kingdom hearts 1 to the same effect. One of my favorite game but playing it now. It'3 really not that good, it': so damn clunky.
I think it has to do with games being a niche thing in the 90's to early 2000's, which would lead to more variety in games. Nowadays, all of the big titles feel "samey" in the sense they're trying to be safe to get a large audience and the only thing's you'd get that were different are from indie companies.
Getting something like a Quake, Unreal or Half-Life these days done by a mainstream company wouldn't really happen. Like the game has a distinct "personality" even when it's bad or similar to other titles in it's genre.

Yeah, I sure miss the maze like maps, primal action systems, and floppy discs!
If anything graphical settings are a staple of modern games, since there's so many setups of varying performance that you just can't say "yeah fuck you, 486 or bust".

Hahaha yeah all old games are Wolfenstein 3D! xD

Well, we did get Overwatch I guess.

Thankfully STALKER made me obsess over quicksaves so I never ran into this problem

There really isn't a trend, gaming is more diverse than ever. The only trend right now seems to be unoriginal series failing hard to be original. But besides that there's nothing. Unless you want to count hero shooters, which really aren't that prevalent... yet. Hardly a trend anyway, just an emerging sub genre.

The Half-Life games are the exact opposite of being clunky, though? Both Source and GoldSource, as well as the old ID engines they're based on feel absolutely amazing to play
... Modern games just feel better.
Well obviously. "Modern" games are built using the further advanced techniques and design choices that all the older games initially toyed around with. Take the idea of physical objects for example. Half-Life 2 was one of the first games to really use it as both a gameplay function, and as a side-feature, hence why it's so prominent in that game, but now it's an absolute basic thing for games. The whole "wait behind cover to replenish health" thing? That can be almost linearly credited to Halo:CE.
Plus, there's also the time factor that can really mix a persons overall take of HL2. If you played HL2 back when it came out, there was nothing on the market that compared to it. It was a completely new experience for gaming, which is why it was and still is when compared to the same year - hailed as one of the best games. Now on the other hand, if you had never heard of the game somehow and were to play it for the first time even back in 2009, there's no way you'd get even remotely the same experience because all the features that made the game stick so well with people have become basic staples - things that you'd already be expecting and wouldn't even blink at. Physical entities? That's hardly a "feature" anymore. Immersive storytelling or complete character control during cutscenes? Again, a staple of most - unless the game is going for a particular setting or feeling.
I digress, the main thing is the two points above and more unspoken features, are all further built upon with each generation of games so it's to be expected that new games feel better then old ones.
