Oh it's one of these
I don't know why so many people make real-life action short films based on half-life, but then totally miss the point of half life. They just turn it into a dumb action fest and excuse for visual effects, with virtually no story or anything. It's not interesting or cool to watch. Half-Life has a story, all these fan movies crammed with shoddy effects, do not. I don't wanna see a half-life fan film that's just about a dude who can do flips and has a sword for some reason.
But they're all like that!! why!! someone please help me understand why it's never just a cool story based in the universe and always a meaningless action sequence!!
The whole idea behind short films is that they need to have a really really good story, and be really interesting, to make up for how short they are. Something video-game films, as usual, are totally devoid of.

Because in order to become internet famous you must include guns and fight scenes obviously.

Agreed. I'd love to see a HL film based around an average citizen and the loss of everything he/she held close to them as a result of the invasion of the Combine. Or maybe a story of some citizens who struggle with the idea of a rebellion as they believe their lives are OK under the Combine. Oooorr maybe a citizen can't face the idea of continuing to live under the Combine after his wife or daughter gets turned into a stalker and right as he's about to off himself, the rebellion starts and he finds a purpose in life?

Ok, so the dude jumps off a building to kill himself when he sees the rebellion start so he does a backflip and lands and grabs the combines guns and kills him then makes it his life goal to eat every eyeball of all the combines he sees the end

If I had a decent video camera, and some friends, I have plenty of Half Life based ideas.
Though, none of that will come true because I only have the latter to go on.
horrible acting and some shit doesn't make sense like the gman appearing to some random civvies, then there's also the fact that he used fake CGI buildings on the beggining and that gives it a really weird perspective, i mean, it looks like a bunch of his CGI stuff during the video is off perspective (?), really hard to explain.
i didn't like it.

ugh the helicopter scene is terrible
I wish people would actually make props of the actual half life weapons / consign them, Im sure they do, but this video is just so weird, why is there an AR-15 in a half life movie?
other than that, i agree with rusty, it'd be nice to see a change beside all this action and shit, I mean seriously every half life movie out there is action, i would love to see a dramatic, actually full story told in a short movie.

uhhh..
just because a weapon isn't in half life doesn't mean it wouldn't exist in the same situation in real life.
HL is obviously limited in how many weapons there are and what weapons there are.

To be fair, an ar-15 in the half life universe makes perfect sense. The first few half life games had real life weapons in them.
But still I do agree it does seem out of place.

I've noticed this too. Generally speaking, groups that excel in VFX (or at least have better effects than some green screens and some stock animations layered on top of it or whatever) tend to put writing and character development right at the bottom of their lists. Even with popular YouTubers like FreddieW, none of them can write for shit, so anything more than a four-minute action sequence with maybe one or two interesting ideas thrown into the mix would be completely beyond them. Hence why VGHS was so terrible. They literally cannot write even a half-decent story to save their lives.

Part of the reason why the Resistance uses mostly Combine tech (besides, you know, not having to put in as much work scripting) is because the Combine stuff just so happens to be the best weapons to pierce Combine armor. Most normal guns are likely less effective (hence why the humans lost the 7 Hour War, though that was against synths and not human combine)
Also, this was pretty bad. Half-Life is a massive and rich universe that has so much room for exploration and expansion, but all indy-film makers want to do anymore is be Micheal Bay or some shit and film pretty action sequences and shoehorn in as many things as possible loudly yipping "hey, remember this? Huh guys? remember gman?" It's fanwanking at it's worst.
Simply put, if you cannot right for shit, don't make short films.
the cgi and real stuff doesn't mix together. it looks bad and didn't have much that kept me interested.
It's pretty sad when even independent films based off of video games tend to come out as schlocky boring action-fests that miss the point of the games their based off of (and tend to just be author self-insert fanfiction).

The combine armies who invaded were probably way more impressive than the Civil Protection and human-combine soldiers. I'd imagine most resistance fighters use Combine tech because it's the closest thing to hand.
Even though this short doesn't make much sense, I still appreciate what they tried to make, some effort was put into this and i applaud them for that.
Pretty much on the same level as Beyond Black Mesa.
Bad acting, mediocre effects and almost no plot.

Yeah but if there's never been a sword for example in any half life game it kind of goes against the theme to include it in your half life fan video.

Would you rather the person jump off a cliff and land in a centimeter of water and survive like in half-life aswell?
