I wish I was a ShackTac Sniper, but Im the dude you see on the server that plays a lot but has not mic. Im a decent Arma sniper, would do it all the time with my friends or alone.
people who apply to ST to be snipers ugh

Snipers are so overrated. I was late to a friend's game, and was assigned as the team sniper. I took the first non-sniper-rifle weapon I could find.
I'd love to join a community like shacktac, but i fear i'd be a terrible player.
ShackTac hardly has players as snipers. In fact this is the first time i've seen any. Their focus is on realistic combat as an infantry platoon, and snipers operate as seperate independent units. Though recently they've been doing more combined arms shit so who knows.
This looks like it was just a silly adversarial so they probably just said "hell why not"
Good thing I saw this on here. I've been looking into ShackTac the past couple of days, I'm a huge fan of the old CQB tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and SWAT (not the new shit). Ghost Recon was amazing too, and now I've been playing ArmA ever since. Their videos are amazing to watch. I've been thinking about joining and I'd be interested in being a Forward Air Controller or maybe even something in the Mortar Squad attachment. Also, what are they using to get those radio effects when you hear them talking?

[editline]12th July 2012[/editline] No one applies to shacktac for a specific role, though, so if you send in a join inquiry begging to be x thing you're probably going to look like a prude. From there it depends on the mission what roles are available, but you wouldn't be tied to the weapons platoon or anything. That, and a lot of the time they don't use Mortars (though they have) or CAS (though they have, and are more commonly recently). They use ACRE for communications.

Cool, thanks guys. Once I get some issues with my PC cleaned up and reinstall ArmA 2 I'll probably start looking into it a little more. Thanks again.
Sniping is only good if you're good, and in ACE it takes time and practice to be any sort of decent with it. I have a range card here in front of me, without a rangefinder or anything, I can have your distance to within about 20m estimated thanks to the Mildots, and my scope zeroed in for it in less time than it would take to pull a vector out and hit R to turn it on. Then there's still the wind which is just everywhere, unless you have a second guy with a range card and just as experienced giving you constant wind readings, you're still no better than a regular guy with an RCO
Sniping is only good if you have a competent partner and a good vantage point. Sniping is also useless 90% of the time.

We have been using air support more commonly but its mostly just a harrier or a fighter bomber, never really an a-10 as it would destroy everything. It's usually beagle flying.
you don't sign up for a role in shacktac, you just pick one in selection screen if you're allowed (p-fng wont be platoon commander lol) to or think you're capable. its a game - you choose what you want generally, rifleman, AR, fireteam leader, AT gunner, mortar gunner, etc. [editline]13th July 2012[/editline] in other words, don't be this [QUOTE=Xgamer921;36737461]I wish I was a ShackTac Sniper, but Im the dude you see on the server that plays a lot but has not mic.
