My favourite Battlefield game. Rush or conquest can't come close to how awesome Titan mode is. I suspect (and hope) we could see a 2143 in a few years time.

i would have called 2142 perfect if the assault class wasn't so ridiculous
No, or else it would of been Battlefield 2143 or something. If they made some kind of expansion, I'd be pretty nice too.
Tudd, did you play on the Caspian Border server by any chance?
I wasn't terribly happy with how 2142 was, it felt clunky and restricted compared to Battlefield 3, and the imbalances between the classes made it hard to really get behind the gameplay and enjoy it. Personally, I feel like Battlefield 2142 was just a stepping stone from BF2 to Bad Company 2.
That having been said, I was a huge fan of the concept behind it all, and would love to see it given justice with a new engine and proper balancing.

Yah why?

No. God no. Battlefield isn't battlefield anymore. Unless they reverted a ton of changes back to the old ways then hell no. Imaging having to wipe out every last mother fucking on the titan / base raping you for them all to finally go away until they managed to get back from a real spawn (since they can all spawn on each other / spawn not just on leader or beacon)? Also they would need to bring commander back.
I'd rather see a very dedicated mod team just make a carbon copy of this in an updated engine (well they could make some tweaks to nerf assault / RDX / gunships since gunships won the game).
The whole idea of futuristic warfare never appealed to me, I'm definitely not the only one.
Still don't think it's fair to judge the game before it's even out (especially the biggest part of the battlefield series, vehicles, aren't even available in the beta). BF3 is pretty much BF2, modernized.
As much as I'd love to see a sequel to 2142, the vehicles weren't really enjoyable to drive for me. All I really did was dick around in the titan and shoot out of escape pods.

I think nostalgia is blinding FP again.

After playing the Beta it's pretty obvious the game at it's core is not truly battlefield.

Play Caspian Border
Play Caspian Border
While I do agree that Caspian Border shows more of the Battlefield side, it still felt off and kind of un-battlefield-like, in a way.

i hope you're right but the biggest difference between BF2 and BF3 is that BF3's beta just isn't fun and the case would have to be that BF3 is completely different from the beta, which i doubt.

In what way?
I honestly had good fun playing 2142. I think it's the drop pods and all those cool class features that did it for me (and of course titans). I had a lot of fun playing it, it wasn't just nostalgia.
In what way?
Hard to explain. It just doesn't feel like a proper Battlefield, it feels more like Bad Company 2.

Nostalgia? I still play 2142 and battlefield 2 so I dont think nostalgia is coming in to play

I did, it just felt like a bigger version of cod with loose feeling vehicles. Even though it's a big map, it still feels like the skirmishes were small and random.
With older battlefield games capturing a flag was the objective. With BF3 it seems like people find it annoying and don't give a shit.

I would still say wait for the game to come out first. you have to remember there are a lot of assholes playing it right now for one reason: It's free. Once you have to buy the actual game to play it, i think it will thin out a bit, and the more battlefield players with stand out, leading to better sessions.
I will say they seem to have "CoD-ized" battlefield 3. You die easier, firefights are smaller, and quicker, and the overall gameplay is faster paced than the usual Battlefield wargames. Then again, as stated many times, it could just be because Metro was a horrible map to show off BF3's true grit. But maybe they were trying to steal the market from other fast paced games. Trying to appeal to a larger market, which would be a good marketing ploy. I just think the BF fans should stick by it until it comes out at least. And if not, just appreciate the amount of actual work, and innovation that went into the games development in a time when games are pushed out as fast as possible, with the least amount of consideration for gaming as a media or art form.

Well that last part would simply be the community being populated by... yeah. As for the vehicles, I actually enjoyed them quite a lot. Had extensive action with the MBTs. Shit was cash compared to BF2 in my opinion.
I thought 2142 was awesome. They branched out and tried a lot of new features, changing up the class system, new methods of transportation namely pods, walkers, etc. Some were lots of fun, some didn't change much.
And honestly, I rocked ass at BF2142, I went a round once with 54 kills and no deaths, and we managed to win. Get some buddies on coms with you, and you could dominate and get number 1 squad with only one or two guys. I'll never be that good at a game again.
The full Minsk map was my all-time favorite Battlefield map to date, and ironically 2142 was the only game in the series I was good at.

I do appreciate DICE, but I can't shell out $60 when I feel like they took out the complexity of the Battlefield series and it plays like a Cod/BF hybrid. I miss the humor, variance, and unexpected nature of BF series. Crashing aircraft carriers, titan pods, C4-Jeep combo, and Huey flying were all distinctive memories I have even from the beta of those games. With this beta, I just feel the core gameplay comes off as less complicated and formulaic and it still carried over into Caspian Border.
The game just represents a continual effort copy/achieve over COD, but in reality it didn't need to change itself in such a way to compete.

I played tons and tons of rounds on Caspian border and it was the same every time on every server, exactly the way Tudd is describing it. It simply did not feel like BF, not matter how many times I re played the map, no matter how many different mind sets I had when going into it, it was all still the same.
And saying to wait for it to come out first is a response you use for people who are complaining about bugs, the game play is still going to be exactly the same and the players shouldn't matter, it should still feel like a giant battle even with bad players. Also dying quicker isn't really "CoD-ized" it makes you think before you do something so no running into the open, getting shot by 50 guys, then getting to cover and regenerating your health, it puts a focus more on team play.
But again I loved BF from 1942-2142 but BF3 just simply doesn't feel like a BF game to me at all and stick with it isn't going to do much, if I have to wait for release just to see what people say and see all the maps, then I will have to spend an additional $15 on the stupid Karkand map pack when it's released on top of the $60 game. Also if I still don't like what i see there is nothing I can do, no modding tools at all.
Just for longevity, fun, new features and such it looks like there is much better games to spend your money on like for instance you have Arma 3, RO2 and Skyrim...all 3 games with modding tools and cheaper then BF3 (besides Skyrim but again that has modding tools and hundreds of hours of gameplay)
Unfortunately I would love to get BF3 but with what I have played I just can't, it just doesn't feel right to me and I can't buy it just because it is BF3, last time I did that with a game was Dragon Age 2 just because it was Dragon Age 2 I bought it even though it was a lot worse then the first game because I wasn't thinking and just thinking Dragon Age. Though I do appreciate it for all the work that has been put in it.
This game felt so clunky and unfinished to me.
While BF3 is still in beta, it still has its main features and I agree BF3 doesn't feel like Battlefield. What I missed was the choice of 7 specific classes, tanks, planes, and an un-cap. While I do like the intensity of CQB in BF3, I wish they would have kept at the classes at least down to Assault, Medic, Engineer, Sniper, and Support along with the Commander. Unless you were playing with everyone on Teamspeak, the squads feel disconnected.
Ill still purchase BF3 because It is showing a great game in beta but I am not sure it has earned Battlefield status.
