Agreed, this type of thing has been done dozens of times before. And honestly I hate bullshit like this - it's pretenious as fuck and it shows that your just trying to make a cool looking "artsy" video.
It's actually rather poor "art" typography because the type doesn't really convey whats going on at all, it's just some guy linearly animating a basic all-caps typeface that's neatly seated in a grid that "subtitles" the audio track.
Good typography doesn't rely on pictograms to convey the message. Good typography conveys the message using the words alone, either with a clever manipulation or a clever application. Here's a really unoriginally basic and grade-school example of "good artistic typography", but it gets the point across:

The better ones usually have images and fancy effects alongside the text now and then, like this one. I agree though, the text-only ones are generally just boring after a while.
