Damn, the firing sound sounded cool
where can I buy one?
where can I buy one?
Amazon.
I love how the projectile is going so fast its burning in the air.
Why are they shooting such a weirdly shaped object?
Is sounds just like I'd expect something called a railgun to sound like.
Why are they shooting such a weirdly shaped object?
Because it has to move in the barrel, and it probably has some special magnetic properties.
The projectile is that shape for a reason: test-bed control...If it where conical (and* it will be when fully implemented) the projectile would penetrate all the barriers and could escape the test-grounds.
Catches the magnetic energy better, making it easier to push forward.
EDIT: Disregard this I can't physics
I wonder if rifling would affect the projectiles accuracy.
That noise was amazing. *BoomZZZZT*

How could you rifle that barrel.
I wonder if rifling would affect the projectiles accuracy.
Since it's accelerated by a magnetic field rather than expanding gasses you'd probably just want to align the rails differently to achieve spin. If that's even possible.
i expected more of a PEEEEEEW...wwwoyooooooooooou sound
now make a damn rifle already

Impossible until mobile super-batteries are invented.
[editline]29th February 2012[/editline]
It would also be impractical as a handheld weapon because the barrel wears down quickly.
Leave it to the military to make an incredibly modern weapon, and take a video of it with intro cards that make it feel like the video was made in 1992....
i thought they cancelled this?
Now we can shoot down giant robots from the pyramids!
Wow, holy fuck nuggets, imagine what kind of fucking damage this shit will do to a hull of a tank.
The 'Unclassified' at the beginning made me wonder how the workers feel when they're watching a video that says 'Classified' with the intimidating information on what would happen if you leaked it.
"speed kills" is the best fucking motto.
the best!
EDIT:
Oh, eradico means destroyed.
the point still stands

Overkill :v:
They'll be mounting this on ships, because the speed of the projectile may allow it to penetrate conventional ship defense (because new missile interception systems are on the way to become so good that anti-ship missiles may become obsolete).

*grabs mini railgun out of nowhere and aims at Rick Perry*
This is Antonio342100, signing off, URA!
*part of the United States is destroyed*
EDIT: The beauitfil gift of boxes.
Did you know that it was designed and built by BAE systems. :eng101:
Awesome fact: What you see when the projectile is exiting the barrel isn't fire from a propellant(the projectile is solid metal, no propellant like regular cannon projectiles), the projectile moves so fast that it generates plasma due to the friction with the air.
When it's outside the building you can even see the air warming up around it.
i thought they cancelled this?
They canceled one type of rail gun development, there's still others.
Now when can we have

?
Fucking magnets, dude.
US Navy, it's... To me it seems to say BAE systems.
Yet another American claime- funded weapon made by 'foreign' hands.
