It's like there isn't a song in the world that he can't turn into a polka medley. Good to see that he's still kicking ass.

This is so awfully good.
This is so awfully good.
Weird Al in a nutshell.
I love how when he started, everyone hated him for parodying their music, now it's an honor :v: I love you, Al!

To most people he's just the guy who makes song parodies and I think they're missing out on so much more.

Oh good, it's the one time of a year where I shill Weird Al to all of you. If he ever comes to a city near you, do yourself a favor and see him. His performances are a blast. He sounds better on stage then on a recording. His 2018 tour might be the exception to most people though. It's only original songs, no parodies at all in a super basic "couple of guys sitting on stools" performance. It should still be a great time though.

It was definitely a treat and was unexpected there.
Even though his songs are protected because they're parodies, he still asks permission from the original artists as a courtesy. He started doing that after on artist got really upset, I don't recall who.
Although Yankovic traditionally secures permission from the artists he parodies (even though this is not legally required, as parodies are covered under fair use guidelines), and was told by his record label that Coolio had given permission, Coolio later claimed that he had not given such permission (and in fact publicly expressed disgust saying that Yankovic's parody "desecrated the song"). Because of this incident, Yankovic now seeks approval for song parodies through receiving permission from the artists themselves, rather than communicating through intermediaries. Coolio himself said in a 2011 interview that he had since "apologized to him".
Incidentally, something similar happened years later with Lady Gaga with "Perform This Way", except in an inverted fashion.
