this game looked like shit due to the DLC practices but this just seals any possibility of me touching the game. you don't profit off of dead cancer people
This idea really, really should not be as controversial as it is but WB have somehow managed to do it.
How do you fuck up making something honoring a dead developer. How
Why does bad shit happen to good games? Fuck I really want to get this game, but this shit can't stand!
Not defending the DLC practice nor going against TB, but I think it needs better clarification on why the money is prohibited in those territories. If it's a legal jurisdiction with a lot of red tape, I think it's fine. WB Games (or a lawyer) need to explain why international and those states cannot do direct donation funding. Even TB said that he's not up-to-date on the whole legal situation behind it. Since the news of this came out today, I'm really skeptical to suddenly side with TB since his research isn't too up to snuff other than "Game journalists did not mention this!" and...that's all he had to say.
Knowing that they can't donate most of the money due to these legal issues, they shouldn't have really put the DLC up for sale to begin with. Instead for example, they could've just helped the family set up a Go Fund Me page and use the character to promote it. Would've helped with their PR too.

Since no portion of the customer's money is directly flowing to a donation, that should get around a lot of red tape.
I appreciate TB's appeal for civilized discussion, but I disagree. This is disgusting and absolutely immoral. A lot of ethically objectionable practices are now commonplace in the games industry, because of complacency from the consumer's side. We need to draw a line here, because corporations have no morals. Not a single company should have the gall to try and make a profit off the death of a person, through well-meaning donations/purchases no less. WB needs to be called out and publically shamed for this.
I was on the fence about buying the game before but not anymore. They are knowingly and willingly taking money from people who believe they're donating to a grieving family. They definitely had me fooled so I can imagine a lot of people falling for it. And unsurprisingly, people on Neogaf are siding with WB on this one because the information is coming from TB. Instead they are attacking him with points that are clearly addressed in the video they obviously didn't watch.
I remember when Gearbox did the same thing for a fan of Borderlands, by putting him in Borderlands 2 as a character who occasionally gives you high tier weapons. Except it was free and wasn't DLC. Even fucking Gearbox has better sense than WB.
