[Blunty] Half-price alternative to the Vive - Pimax 4k VR headset

Sorry about the "editorialized" title or whatever you'd call it, original was a bit on the cringe/clickbait side of things (atleast for facepunch), and besides, it's basically the same info anyway.

Seems like an OK vr headset relative to the Vive. Half the price and only missing room tracking (I think that's what it's called) and the refresh is 60hz as opposed to 120 or w/e.

That's the defining feature of the Vive though, and the Rift has it too now. I don't think it can be considered an alternative when it doesn't have that. With only rotational tracking, I would say even calling it virtual reality is a stretch now that we have headsets with absolute positional tracking.
Higher quality lenses and higher pixel count is absolutely great, but tracking is the most important by far.

Also 60hz seems like it'd be fucking horrible for VR.
holy shit i havent heard about this guy since that story about him beating his wife
Doesn't Valve want to release separate tracking dots etc?
Would be fun if somebody would just tag the room tracking on it.
That ghosting seems pretty bad and even with some software tricks 60fps is really not so great either.

That's a preeettttyy big caveat when comparing it to the vive or even the rift. There's plenty of cheaper alternatives to the vive that are just the headsets sans roomscale, I have no idea why this of all of them is being compared to the vive itself.
