horrible. good thing i opened the link in an incognito window
Christ immediately angry because of shouting. I'm giving it a chance and so far it's ok.
He's ripping into the movie for using cliches, oh, the delicious irony.
Huh. That ending was weird.
It's okay OP, I like Nostalgia Critic.
I hate Nostalgia Critic when his reviews are skit heavy. This was skit heavy. I wish he would keep his skits to a minimum, he's usually alright then.
I've heard this movie was iffy but if this review is anything to go by, it just looks awful.
He makes good points. The movie really isn't an Alice in Wonderland at all. It's far too political and boring. And Alice doesn't make any attempt to have a personality. I love the visuals and I think if Tim did it right the movie would have been an instant classic. But instead I'm just left asking myself "Why?". If it's a dream, why are you doing what these strange characters tell you to do? If it's a dream, why do you feel like you need to remind yourself it's a dream every 5 minutes? And what the hell do you care who is in charge of "Underland" anyway? Both queens emit an extraordinary amount of depression.
Isn't this film more based on Through the Looking-Glass then Alice In Wonderland?
I liked the reference to The American McGee series.
I liked the reference to The American McGee series.
Same here, personally that's what Wonderland is in my view. The structured mindscape of an imaginative yet rather crazy girl. Also, wasn't the hair in Madness Returns kinda amazing? Probably not "TressFX" levels of awesome, but still lovely.
lets not even mention the atrocity that is the new alice tv series it has tons of disney characters even Jafar [editline]13th March 2014[/editline]
Who da fuck is that? That's not Jafar.

Oh god those GCI effects. Could they seriously not afford a garden for a couple of hours? It's like they super imposed EVERYTHING into that scene. Even the characters who are there look like they aren't there.
Isn't this film more based on Through the Looking-Glass then Alice In Wonderland?
It's pretty much just Through the Looking Glass as a film. They really only called it Alice in Wonderland because we're part of a special 76 1/2 people that know Through the Looking Glass even exists.
I liked the end of the video. I like when he gets personal about the movies he reviews. Like the Christmas Tree one, because whether or not you like the Nostalgia Critic, Doug Walker is a pretty smart guy when it comes to film.
I honestly hated how the jabberwocky was used in this film. The Poem Jabberwocky actually plays with your imagination and watching the film, it made the jabberwocky alot more boring and just sucked the creativity out of the creature. Personally, i wished they never added it as a monster towards the end.
’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. “Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!” He took his vorpal sword in hand; Long time the manxome foe he sought— So rested he by the Tumtum tree And stood awhile in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. “And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!” He chortled in his joy. ’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.
Its almost like abstract art, it lets the audience play with its ideas. It was pretty unfaithful to the original source material, and the Critic's points i definitely agree with in this instance. What is a Vorpal Sword? What the Hell is a JubJub Bird? (Infact they spoil this too, in the movie.) It just took all of the insane imagery from all of these non-existent crazy words and actually ruined it all. I hated this movie, i absolutely hated it. Why? Because i read the book, i read the poems, i looked at the art. It adds Nothing, and it completely detracts itself from the message of the original story. As for the Skits? Its down to your personal taste, they don't get in the way of the actual video for me. If they do for you, i don't blame you.
Nostalgia critic is really hit and miss, and this one is definitely a miss.
His skits are so cringy. I enjoy the reviews/rants he does but the skits, ugh.
so THATS where said went
Wow he really stepped down.
Doug Walker is a pretty smart guy when it comes to film.
debatable, to be honest. he likes to make up his opinion and then come up with excuses that sound intellectual in basis for it ie: his review of moulin rouge is possibly one of the dumbest things he's ever produced. it's like he doesn't even realize the entire film is a tribute to bollywood
I liked the end of the video. I like when he gets personal about the movies he reviews. Like the Christmas Tree one, because whether or not you like the Nostalgia Critic, Doug Walker is a pretty smart guy when it comes to film.
He is actually one the of the worst filmmakers ever considering the budget he can muster, and how much he criticizes movies but yet falls for the same mistakes in his films. His actual opinions on films isn't really anything different you would hear from some random person on the internet. He ain't a James Rolfe. I mean if you really like the emotion of cringing, then ya, he is a mastermind.
You people make me fucking sick! Are you kidding me? Doug, one of the worst filmmakers? Are you high? Sure, he's no Kubrick, but he sure ain't as bad Seltzerberg, Coleman Francis, Craig Moss, Christine Whitlock, Ulli Lommel, and especially Uwe Boll. I know opinions aren't wrong, but that's just downright insulting if you actually think he's as bad as those! And these are just the b-movie directors. Don't get me started on some of the other big budget directors like you know what! And why isn't Rob getting as much as flack as he does. He's just as involve in those as Doug is. Also, so what if his opinions are that of opinions? He's still actually really smart and does know his stuff. He makes good points and of course, bad points/fuck-ups. And for the record, I FUCKING LOVE THIS REVIEW AND THE SKITS! It was really epic and I enjoyed it. If you ask me, the more the plot, the better. Oh, and to whoever said anything bad about the Moulin Rouge, I couldn't disagree more. That was like his most epic review, and Doug has often said that was his favorite until Cat in the Hat. Oh, and did it ever occur he actually just dislikes the movie? He even explain why and he had two people who defended it! *EDIT*: Also, another thing, I don't know why you people always downgrade these "plots" and say that's not the point of the show. It was never that much of a review show to begin with. It was a comedy show with at best, some comments/jokes. If you want real reviews, go watch Sibling Rivarly or any reviews by Doug himself. But then again, you seem to not even like Doug's opinions because you think he's smart.
Well I'll admit the Clark Kent joke was pretty funny.
-words-
I'm gonna guess you're a TGWTG fan that saw this thread and the comments, and registered just to say all of this?
I'm gonna guess you're a TGWTG fan that saw this thread and the comments, and registered just to say all of this?
Got me! I'll admit, some of the sketches can be annoying (*cough*Catwoman*cough*) and I can understand why some wouldn't like it. Even if you don't, Doug has often said that going back to the old format would be boring! So I always hate it when people "just review the movie!" I'm not going to say you should like it, but...yeah you don't like it. Anyway, NC's humor is very subjective, especially for people here.
:words:
Firstly, when did we declare him the worst? The worst thing we declared him as is inconsistent in his quality. Sometimes he's OK, sometimes he's bad. Secondly, him not being the worst doesn't mean he's the best. He's definitely not the best. And before you comment again, you can like him. Liking a reviewer is subjective. Thirdly, people are allowed to not like him for various reasons. I personally don't like most of his reviews for the skits/plots for the same reason i don't like most reviews that are skit/plot heavy. I personally want a more concise review. Fourthly, who joins a forum just to bitch out people for simply not liking a video on the internet. It's not like the people in this thread were being assholes. He gets posted here often because a few people here like him. It's just that he's not as popular here as some other sites.
