Didn't see this posted here. I just finished playing through Axiom Verge for the first time and I found myself agreeing with what Matt has to say about the game. Also ESA looks real neat, I'll be sure to check that game out.
Environmental Station Alpha is a great little metroidvania, I highly recommend it.
I've not gotten around to beating Axiom Verge yet, but all I've played of it I've enjoyed immensely, I loved the atmosphere it has.
Axiom Verge is a great game.
I got a chuckle when he made the exact same mistake I made in regards to one particular area in the game.
I think the best thing about AV is how unpredictable progression is within it on the first playthrough.
I liked Axiom Verge's music and I thought the game was neat although I've never played it, just watched a playthrough. I never heard of this other game though.
Something to add to the part of secret places, secret worlds in Axiom Verge have a more complex way to use them rather than shooting at walls and expecting one to break or be non solid.
Location, map generation, access mode and quantity varies between difficulty settings, save slots and even how many times you re used that save slot.
There are one or two weapons that requires you to play on a certain save slot, using a password, restart the game rewriting the progress or delete your progress and start over again to find them.
As someone who likes to derail from the storyline as soon as I can to find items and lore, such random technical details complementing the nature of the game made it even more enjoyable for me.
