ive found that you can entirely avoid mosquitoes if you're a smoker apparently from what i gather from pop scientists nicotine makes your blood less sweet and thus less odorous making you invisible to the common house mosquito in a way, which sounds reasonable?
How much research has been done to see if mosquitoes are an irreplaceable part of our ecosystem? If they aren't we really should just wipe them out
Seeing that mosquito getting smashed felt really satisfying after learning how they take our blood.
How much research has been done to see if mosquitoes are an irreplaceable part of our ecosystem? If they aren't we really should just wipe them out
They are not. Nothing in any ecosystem feeds on exclusively mosquitoes, to my knowledge.

Any kind of smoke will deter most flying insects if not all, but this works better if you are a bunch of people smoking cigarettes or joints together.
How much research has been done to see if mosquitoes are an irreplaceable part of our ecosystem? If they aren't we really should just wipe them out
No animal is a truly necessary part of any ecosystem, it's just that we try not to kill off any species.
How much research has been done to see if mosquitoes are an irreplaceable part of our ecosystem? If they aren't we really should just wipe them out
we have a method to wipe them out forever. Put in extremely baisic terms, we can introduce a ton of lab grown mosquitoes that carry a special gene that will activate in a couple generations that makes them completely sterile. Within about 20 years and well timed and planned releases of the infected mosquitoes, we can make all of them extinct forever
We should nuke the Mosquitos :v:.
They should follow the EU standards of hygiene as the rest of us!
They are not. Nothing in any ecosystem feeds on exclusively mosquitoes, to my knowledge.
They are. A lot of aquatic animals feed on them, a quick look at the wiki
Seeing that mosquito getting smashed felt really satisfying after learning how they take our blood.
When I was in summer camp for boy scouts we'd let mosquitoes feed on us almost fully and smack them on our arms. Would leave huge splats of blood.
They are not. Nothing in any ecosystem feeds on exclusively mosquitoes, to my knowledge.
But there's so many mosquitos, damn creatures are resilient as hell. You can find them pretty much anywhere as long as 'anywhere' contains a small source of water. Except the artic, of course.
We should nuke the Mosquitos :v:.
[t]https://twinfinite.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/bloodbug.png[/t] How about no?
They are not. Nothing in any ecosystem feeds on exclusively mosquitoes, to my knowledge.
Just because nothing eats ONLY mosquitoes doesn't mean we can just lift them out of the ecosystem without endangering the balance.
They are. A lot of aquatic animals feed on them, a quick look at the wiki
Yeah, anyone can edit wikipedia, though. It's probably a plant by the mosquitoes themselves.
Eradicate them already

It's not very effective unless you're talking about something else that aren't oxitec mosquitoes. If you are talking about Oxitec mosquitoes. Each individual egg has to be injected with the genes. Not only do the majority of the eggs die, of those survivors, only a few incorporate the genes into their genome and become the desired mosquitoes. It's also extremely expensive to do and you need a fuckton of them to have any measurable impact on mosquito populations in an area.
[t]https://twinfinite.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/bloodbug.png[/t] How about no?
You know I have never onced seen a blood bug do that animation on me or anyone else.
Eugh enough with the sticky sound effects!
How much research has been done to see if mosquitoes are an irreplaceable part of our ecosystem? If they aren't we really should just wipe them out
Mosquitoes are part of the food web not only as adults but as larvae too. Here is an interesting read on how things would look like without mosquitoes: http://www.nature.com/news/2010/100721/full/466432a.html
they are so sharp you can't feel them
what a lie I have a slight fear of needles because they are painful, and mosquitoes are no exception of that pain
This video would be a lot easier to watch if they hadn't added in those gross sound effects.
Cool, I'm gonna start smoking cancer sticks to avoid them
I smoke a pack a day and I'm usually the one who gets eaten by the fuckers when I'm hanging outside w/ mates
How much research has been done to see if mosquitoes are an irreplaceable part of our ecosystem? If they aren't we really should just wipe them out
I'd rather see the world and even the universe itself BURN to nothing, than to live in a world where they are needed. If they get that big, it means that we have to use flamethrowers against swarms. How is that not good? Better yet, if it's a single one, you can beat it to death with a bat! [editline]8th June 2016[/editline]
Seeing that mosquito getting smashed felt really satisfying after learning how they take our blood.
But hearing the buzz made me angry, just like real mosquitos do.
Mosquitoes would be 100x times more tolerable if they weren't so much of disease and parasite magnets.

If I ever find mosquito larvae in a bucket of water/pond I'm picking them out one by one and squashing them fucking things piss me off
WHY HAVEN'T WE DONE THIS
Because destroying entire species is not a task to be taken lightly.
