Great video. TB bringing up good points as always.
So I came here to post the vid having seen it and I wanna just say: TB's point about drawing a wedge between game journos and gamers is so key to this whole thing. I think it's intentional, and I can very easily see myself resenting the games media for their position if they're too shitty about it. It's very insidious. Games journos can be that way, I've found recently I've disagreed with a lot of what TB, Jesse and Dodger say on their podcast because they seem so confused by the idea of competitive gaming, or games that are time consuming. They need to be careful with that, because if they become too far removed from their audience and stop saying they disagree with their opinions and start insulting them we could have an alienation problem. Stylosa for example, I start resenting him because his job has essentially become aimlessly ramble over Overwatch footage for 10ish mins a day. I don't know if Bethesda see it this way but if game journos aren't careful about the way they cover this, we could see some interesting results.
I think for the most part journos have lost a lot of respect and credibility for the exact reason that there is sometimes nothing to stop them from pulling insidious stunts that will only serve to benefit their careers. It kind of ruins it for everyone else in the field doing their work diligently.
I don't quite understand his professional reviewer argument. If these sites start dishing out rushed reviews, users will go somewhere else and the site will suffer even more. Rushed reviews is bad for the reviewer, not the game itself.
Rushed reviews->Bad reviews->Lost sales due to those bad reviews
It is highly unlikely this will be a problem for any company that does last day review copy distribution. Not to mention a rushed review is not a bad review, just a review of lower quality, which will encourage people to seek other sources rather than outright not buy a game.

I feel like he's trying conflate leaning on a developers reputation with fandom. For instance, I'm excited for the new Battletech game(big surprise there). The developer, Harebrained Schemes, has released the Shadowrun Returns series which was well recieved, an original IP which was well recieved and a boardgame which again, well recieved. They generally have a good track record, therefore I can at least with an educated guess, decide that preordering their next game won't be a gamble. Infact, until Fallout 4, I generally considered Bethesda to be decent developers that experimented and also put effort into making full bodied games that justified the hype around them. However, after Fallout 4, which I pre-ordered, I'm now going to avoid paying for their games even a week after their release to make sure I know what I'm getting is good.
a rushed review is not a bad review, just a review of lower quality
Isn't a low quality review a bad one by definition?
