Seeing this thing fly for the last time at Airbourne in my town later in August Saw it for the first time like 3 years ago, that thing is fucking huge and bloody loud, its incredible really.
a beautiful aircraft
And some clips of the Vulcan howling
It flies so slowly around the field I keep thinking its about to fall out the sky I've seen both a Victor and a Vulcan up close but never a Valiant. Also never seen any of the three fly if recall so I might have to see it this year
Always loved this aircraft it was such a fantastic engineering feat. Here have a documentary about a top secret mission involving this aircraft ahead of the fight to liberate the Falklands.
So hey, I feel like I should ask because I am genuinely interested. Why does it "howl" exactly? Is it akin to the Stukas?

So this is basically the wind going around the plane doing this? That's pretty nifty.
I think it's the sound of the air filling the vacuum created at the front of the intakes at low speed because the compressor is so effective at high throttle.
God that is a terrifying sound, would probably shit myself if I heard that during a war or something. Some of the sounds also remind me of the classic TIE Fighter screech from Star Wars.
You probably wouldn't hear it during an actual combat situation because the aircraft would be moving much faster, so the effect wouldn't be present.
it sounds like a fucking TIE fighter
That sudden storm of camera shutter sounds when it flew formation with the red arrows.
man they don't make planes like they use to any more in my head I imagine designers in the 1950s drawing nice shapes and going "this will probably fly" before handing it over to an engineer or whatever
