I like how the diver, understandably, shits his pants when a hand grabs him.
Holy crap, that must have been terrifying.
One of my biggest fears is ending up like this, knowing you are probably going to die because lack of air.
Can anyone explain the high pitched voices?
Can anyone explain the high pitched voices?
air pressure squeezing their nutsacks
Can anyone explain the high pitched voices?
Well I know that divers tend to breath a mixture of oxygen, nitrogen, and helium. That might have something to do with it.
I think it's something to do with the recording of the radio.
Can anyone explain the high pitched voices?
Saturation divers sometimes use Heliox (a mixture of oxygen and helium) to breathe.
21% Oxygen, 79% Helium (No nitrogen, so no decompression sickness.)
Also, according to wikipedia:
Heliox generates less airway resistance than air and thereby requires less mechanical energy to ventilate the lungs.
So it is also easier to breathe.
Also according to wikipedia:
Because sound travels faster in heliox than in air, voice formants are raised, making divers' speech very high-pitched and hard to understand to people not used to it.[10] Surface personnel often employ a piece of communications equipment called a "helium de-scrambler," which electronically lowers the pitch of the diver's voice as it is relayed through the communications gear, making it easier to understand.
So the diver supervisor can understand them.
Finally, this is what their vessel/diving bell looks like from the outside:

I can't imagine the sense of relief that cook had when he saw the diver.
The guy really wanted to live if he didn't just off himself after 3 days of waiting to suffocate

Off himself with what?
Off himself with what?
By leaving the air pocket?
Off himself with what?
The ocean?
What is your rank?
[I can't really understand the reply]
You are the cook?
Yes sir.
They always survive.
This made me chuckle. Got pretty lucky in a big tragedy. Great that they could save him.
Man, this guy is tied with the cook from Deep Blue Sea as most badass under water sea wreck survival story.
Can anyone explain the high pitched voices?
It has less to do with helium and more to do with the pressure.

this video would have been better if there weren't obese squirrels breathing laboriously into my left ear
The ocean?
Do you really think you could bring yourself to drown?

sorry this particular piece of entertainment doesnt pertain to your tastes
this will probably be made into a movie
like 127 hours

imagine if the guy was underwater and also stuck, like his leg was under some metal or something
that would be horrible
The guy really wanted to live if he didn't just off himself after 3 days of waiting to suffocate
Offing yourself is a lot harder than crazy depressed people make it seem.

It's actually pretty easy.. done it loads of times myself.
The guy giving instructions was so reassuring and did an awesome job, as did the diver.
Do you really think you could bring yourself to drown?
Given the situation yea. If I was faced with starving to death, dehydration, or drowning; it'd do myself in on my own terms after holding out for the hope of rescue. Of those 3 I'd reckon drowning is the quickest and most painless way to go

those must be some fucked up squirrels then.

You say that, but you can't ever know that fact for sure without being under those same dreadful circumstances. People overcome insane odds every day. You can't say that there wouldn't be a glimmer of hope left in the back of your mind, you know? Just that little bit of hope is enough to keep most people going through even the toughest odds.
