And yeah, they did, I made the thread.
[editline]12:22AM[/editline]
I suppose "inb4 get flamed to hell for not liking the way VALVe left L4D l4d." is in order.
I would just like to throw in two quotes
...so like the Source Engine we were talking about is a great example. We haven't called it Source Engine 2. But it is a Source Engine 2! We just keep updating it, not worried about saying this is Source Engine 2.

It’s how you play that’s your strategy. And once we started expanding that [...]we realized, this isn’t Left 4 Dead, this is something bigger than that — well, this is Left 4 Dead 2
Source
Both of these were said by the same person, Chet Faliszek.
I realize that a game and an engine are not exactly the same thing, but Mr.Faliszek's philosophy doesn't quite stand any ground either way.
This and Mann-conomy is making me slowly lose faith in Valve.
:sigh:
Who gives a fuck, I own both and I'll play it on both, the people who have l4d 1 should be happy that Valve give enough of a fuck to give them a free update when they've already released a sequel.
I don't see why L4D2 needs the 'No Mercy' campaign in the first place, from what I noticed most people who have L4D2 also have L4D.
I'm not complaining though, I only have L4D and I'm gonna enjoy 'The Sacrifice' no matter if L4D2 gets it aswell. :v:
Wait, so the sacrifice is still available on l4d1, right?
Why do people care for "exclusivity rights" amid one series?
I thought it was a crossover DLC? like, You complete it on l4d1 then you play it on l4d2 starting from where you left off.
Hey OP I take it you agree with this nonsense.
Cry some more, L4D2 has and always will be the superior sequel with far more gameplay than the first game.
And to quote
Anyone who says L4D1 is superior for any of the following is an idiot:
1. Maps
2. Graphics
3. Environment
4. Survivors
5. Music
6. Sounds
7. Infected
8. Setting
Why you are retarded:
1. Maps can be played in L4D2
2. L4D2 is updated more than L4D
3. Refer to #1
4. Survivors can be played in L4D2, all 8 are available
5. Music can be added to L4D2 from L4D1 if you are a cry baby bitch
6. Refer to #5
7. Can be added to L4D2
8. Refer to #1 and 3
Now stop bitching and complaining and trying to convince yourself L4D1 is better, it offers nothing over L4D2.

Wait, so the sacrifice is still available on l4d1, right?

Because they are bitch boys who think everything should be free when the best option was for Valve to make a new game. The boycotters are crybaby faggots, and the people who say L4D2 sucks and L4D1 is better are also cry baby faggots.
Why the fuck should it matter, it's supporting both games in the series (That's right, Left 4 Dead is a SERIES), and adding something new to both. It's even adding one of the best L4D1 campaigns into L4D2 (Honestly, only thing I like more about L4D1 is campaign quality.
Hitler has to rant with everything in his life, doesn't he?
WHAT? FREE CONTENT? FUCK YOU VAVLE
get over it, you're lucky you get free content in the first place
I don't see why you would be mad about this, too, unless you own the console version or are some sad, sad, sad elitistic individualistic being who's still stuck on L4D1 pretending L4D2 sucks even though you never played it before.
and the people who say L4D2 sucks and L4D1 is better are also cry baby faggots.
Yeah those fucking people and their crybaby opinions on video game quality
valve = EA because they release free updates for both games in a series.
hint: most companies when they make a sequel just forget all about the original, wanting people to buy the sequel.
valve didn't obviously, they released a campaign for the original and the sequel both. i don't really get it.
Hitler is a butthurt crybaby.
i fail to see the problem here, both games get free updates.......whats to complain about honestly some people are never happy unless they're whining.
Yeah those fucking people and their crybaby opinions on video game quality
How dare they question support
This and Mann-conomy is making me slowly lose faith in Valve.
Same here.
If Portal 2 doesnt blow me out of the water...
If you guys hadn't spent the last year complaining about L4D1 and simply saved up some change and bought L4D2, you wouldn't have to worry about any of this crossover nonsense.

Most people played the L4D2 demo and raged off about stupid shit. They also convinced themselves before L4D2 came out that L4D2 was going to suck. Even now they continue to rage about how L4D is superior in some way or another when everything thats in L4D is in L4D2. I'm speaking of course about the PC version as anyone who buys a Valve game on Xbox deserves the garbage they receive.
I can't believe people call out on Valve for being greedy. They gave us Alien Swarm for free for fuck sake. Most companies would charge $20 and slap it on the Xbox Marketplace and forget about PC. They added the "No Mercy" campaign because statistically most people who own L4D1 also own L4D2 and people are starting to make mods to play the L4D1 campaigns in L4D2. Valve thinks its just being nice by doing it and adding a professional grade quality to it.
L4D1 only fanboys can either
1. Go cry some more about how L4D1 is superior and how L4D2 is garbage.
2. Look at this as an opportunity to interest L4D2 only owners to go buy L4D1
people are starting to make mods to play the L4D1 campaigns in L4D2.
They started to a long time ago. http://www.l4d2.upc-gamers.com/news.php
The survivors were basically added to L4D2 with the Passing and using sourcemod they can be working bots and player models.
I have played L4D2 and personally I feel L4D was more fun. Instead of releasing L4D2 they should have made a TF2 like system where you could collect items and buy / trade things and just release all the L4D2 content in a DLC pack.
That way the game would last much longer and there would not be a split in the community.

Email Chet about it, he will explain exactly why they had to make a new game over the old one. The amount of time and work that went into L4D2 could not and would not work as a DLC. They had to basically recode a bunch of shit for L4D to make it support stuff to the point that it was a different game.
Are people seriously still bitching about l4d2?
Why would anyone think that both games getting this would be a bad thing?
If you own either game, no matter what you're getting free DLC.
Hell... if anything you should be glad that Valve is still supporting the first L4D with anything considering that the sequel has been out for a while now.
It's just that they promised to add stuff to L4D which they didn't, then released a version of the game with stuff that they could have added to the original in DLCs and/or Expansions.
And yeah, they promised.
"So each time we've released one of those for Team Fortress 2 we've seen about a 20% increase in the number of people who are playing online. And that number is really important because it determines how many community created maps there are, how many servers are running, and so on. So we'll do the same thing with Left 4 Dead where we'll have the initial release and then we'll release more movies, more characters, more weapons, unlockables, achievements, because that's the way you continue to grow a community over time."
Why would anyone be pissed that it's not L4D1 exclusive? Is there some kind of fanboy war between L4D1 and L4D2? Seriously people should be happy that Valve even supports L4D1 anymore, they could just have done like any other game developer and tell you "The sequel is out, L4D1 won't get anymore DLC as it will be focused on the sequel" (and before you say "Yeah well I'd boycott it!", that wouldn't change a thing because it would still sell loads, same if a L4D3 was announced to be released in a month).

So even though the L4D2 players are getting all the DLC you say we should be happy that people actually play our game?
Yes they could be like any other game developer and rip off people with "sequels", but this is Valve. And honesty and good relations to the community is what sets them apart from the crowd. Now Valve has become just another game developer(although they can still redeem themselves), and disappoionted a lot of people in the process.
By the way, why are you arguing from Valve's point of view? All that seems to be important to you is the sales Valve makes. I'd say that doesn't change a thing because they still disappointed a lot of people who trusted them based on their former reputation.
And that is something that hit anyone who loved Valve for a reason hard.
Also, i wouldn't say making DLC for L4D2 and then taking a tiny part of it and throwing a quick and dirty port at the L4D players is supporting them. The L4D version of The Sacrifice will be nothing more than the bare minimum so they can say "well we technically made DLC for L4D so we didn't lie", just watch.
To answer your very first question, it's because initially Valve said this was going to be L4D DLC. So people got their hopes up that it might actually help somewhat revive the playerbase because people would come back to L4D to play an awesome exclusive campaign. But no, it was for Left 4 Dead 2 as well, so the whole idea went right down the drain. Valve managed to disappoint the L4D players for the third time now.
Of course this is all hard to understand from the perspective of someone who is being spoilt with L4D2 DLC and couldn't care less about any support L4D is getting. Nothing shows this better than the fact that you never got past the "L4D is getting content" part and actually realized how much that content really does.
Killing L4D was (somewhat) understandable because they were never really able to support it, however I do believe there is still some of Valve left, and with L4D2 being continously updated and it's community expanded by continous support, just like Team Fortress 2, i highly doubt they would kill it off with another "sequel".
I don't know when you people came barging in thinking Valve is EA or Activision, but you're terribly wrong. Valve is still Valve, just because they are pulling one EA move doesn't mean they are becoming one. So if you want the games you paid $50 for to become obsolete in a year because there is a better version available then look elsewhere.
And yeah, I boycott L4D2 because i don't approve of Valve's move with L4D, or any of their recent moves. It requires less money and effort than actually buying L4D2, so you tell me why i shouldn't.
Edit:
2. Look at this as an opportunity to interest L4D2 only owners to go buy L4D1
Think about that for a moment there. Why would any L4D2 owner buy L4D1(provided they don't own it) just to play The Sacrifice when there is a better version on L4D2 with the exact same characters and atmosphere? If they really wanted to play it "in L4D" they could just delete all L4D2 exclusive weapons from the map with a script and there you go.
Also, if you'll please take my advice, don't assume that you are right and your opinion is the one and only infallible truth. I'm always open to debates because i might actually learn something that i didn't know. You should be too.
@Everyone:
As a side note i would also like to note that i'm not a Valve hate machine. I'm actually pretty excited about Portal 2 because it might show that Valve can still be the good ol' honest Valve i once loved.
Also, how come everyone here says the exact same "you should be happy L4D gets content" argument?
There are like, periods of these arguments.
When L4D2 was announced: The "that doesn't mean L4D will stop being supported" period.
When Crash Course was released: The "you see Valve is still supporting L4D" period.
When The Sacrifice was announced: The "Valve shouldn't support L4D and you're lucky they still do" period.
And then, my prediction ise: when L4D is over 3 years old: The "Omg L4D is soo old why are you still talking about it" period. That's just a speculation though.
I'd really hate to generalize, but that's how i see it. The exact same arguments from so many people, trough different periods. I'm starting to doubt if these arguments have any substance at all.
