Can someone tell me what is up with the bumper car.

Valve added a taunt that allows you to drive a bumper car.

i thought it was a halloween gamemode or something
The Victory Lap is an Action taunt for all classes.
When the player selects it from the taunt menu, they will enter a team-colored bumper car similar to the ones seen in Carnival of Carnage. While in the taunt, the player can remain still, or move freely in any direction.
Both correct.
i thought it was a halloween gamemode or something
it is also a taunt now.
functionally, it is useless since its quite slow (so heavies dont travel faster than they should, etc). its purely cosmetic.
coming from someone who started playing tf2 in 2011, I feel that a lot of the "general" complaints that tf2 is losing its art style is a bit exaggerated. The only line I draw is when an item makes it hard to discern what team/class you are, or when something is just a blatant moneygrab (the multitudes of crates)
I'd like to remind everyone that the artsyle of the game is intact however the theme is dead and has been for a while.
The Deus ex things really don't fit the style but yes most items break theme more than style which is still pretty bad
Eye sore cosmetics, artificial rarity with an already fucked economy, and no consistent balance/content updates made me quit this game all together.
the state of tf2 makes me so sad
I'd like to remind everyone that the artsyle of the game is intact however the theme is dead and has been for a while.
I kinda think the theme is part of the art style though. Just that one is more small scale and one is more big picture.
But whatever semantics you want to use, at the end of the day I think everybody agrees the game looks many times shittier than it did at launch.
I remember being hyped before the game came out because I absolutely adored the minimalist art style. Now it's just kind of a visual clusterfuck.
thats not even mentioning the weapon skins
oh god the weapon skins
In my opinion some of the skins (Mostly the Gentlemann Collection) are okay. The other ones like the Powerhouse Collection though :s:

its like a body builder who won every award you could think of and dominated the world, but he got so addicted to body building that he started to actually lose muscle and his body just started to shut down
so he started to take steroids and as much protein powder as possible. His body building got even WORSE, and more INTENSE.
then he got thyroid cancer, nearly died after a heroine overdose, survived both, and is now a 700 pound man because his body can't handle anything any more and is basically inflating rapidly, but for some reason the dude just won't die. He's just inflating, and can't stop.
Watching TF2 go through its addiction was the most painful thing to watch
but the only thing you can do is let go. Just take a deep breath, and uninstall it, never to return to it ever again.

Thanks for helping me cope, RIP in peace TF2.
I remember back when they added bill's beret and people went "they're not going to turn the game into a preorder exclusive clusterfuck, are they ? Valve's not that dumb".
Yep.
TF2 went to shit when it started trading and going for free
TF2 went to shit when it started trading and going for free
You know what, I actually support it going free2play
It had a reasonable baseline for a free2play game for which it could grow into something genuine and positive. Everyone has access to all guns and cool, you can buy aesthetics.
but Valve lost the quality control game and the floodgates unlocked. The game just nosedives artistically into a mess.
If the game had maintained a perfectly reasonable level of self control it would still be pretty amazing today.

Free2play could have been the best thing for the game and it ended up being the worst
i just think it's impressive that they managed to keep the game popular and fairly relevant 10 years after release
I remember when I was 12 years old playing the TF2 beta from The Orange Box while waiting for Episode Two and Portal, it was a great experience. It's not even the same game anymore.
Legitimately all I want out of TF2 is a "classic" gamemode that disables all items.
I know you can play the original Orange Box release through some hackery but there's not really a community for that. It needs to be in the main game.
is tf2 relevant? i only ever hear about it from the odd weird human who still enjoys it
Most Valve games seem to have really long shelf lives, it seems. People still play CS 1.6 after all.
I know tons of people who still enjoy TF2.
is tf2 relevant? i only ever hear about it from the odd weird human who still enjoys it
it's relevant for a 10 year old game
is tf2 relevant? i only ever hear about it from the odd weird human who still enjoys it
There is still some enjoyment in it but the game definitely changed. And yeah, despite all the badness around it, since it keeps itself in the top 10 of most played games, it's still relevant.
I still remember when they didn't add these because they didn't fit tf2's overall style in 2012-13

Then in the next 4 years they added much worse stuff

That Big Band Pyro set is something I would've loved to see.
I remember when they wouldn't add anything with custom animations.
Now we have taunts where you ride a bumper car :v:
I think I played when the itemserver were down for a bit back in 2015, it was so fun to play completely vanilla. It's really a shame they just stopped caring after a certain point
from a playerbase standpoint tf2 is quite relevant. it manages to maintain a healthy spot within the top 5 most of the time. though right now it's #7 because of battle royale games and payday 2. but no one talks about tf2 like they talk about the other games in the top 10. either those games have super hardcore competitive support or they are actively in development and receive meaningful updates. tf2 is just kinda there.. no real strong competitive support.. no real meaningful content updates. its just there.
at this point, i almost think tf2 is beyond saving. even though the tf2 team supposedly shows interest in bringing it back and making it a competitively viable game, i just dont think it'll ever be what it could be. its far too bloated of a game, a game where the bloat can easily be bought with real money so there's only so much you can do with it. you can't remove the bloat. there's too much bloat to organize or clean it properly. tf2's situation calls for an entire rebuild from the ground up, but that isn't going to happen. though i wish it would
That Big Band Pyro set is something I would've loved to see.
It makes me a bit more annoyed because I personally think they accepted worse than the Big Band Pyro nowadays. If it was presented now it woulda got in, I think.
