Now that's hot.
Only works at a specific distance, and can't be used against moving targets.
it'd suck if you put that near a window in your shed and someone was walking by on a sunny day and got their eyes melted
"Unfortunately, the R5800 was completely destroyed in a burning shed on December 13, 2010."
... started by the R9000!
Why does 1080 buffer faster then 720....

Brb building 10 of these.
Didn't Archimedes have something similar to this?
So much power in the air in front of it and you can hardly even see it sometimes.

Yes he did, Mythbusters tried recreating what he did but solar rays never work at long range, only short.
Solar power plants have much more advanced versions of these hooked up to small steam turbines on the back of them. The heat that the dish harnesses powers the generators.
Meh, can't use that against zombies.
What if they put 2 Solar Death rays facing each other? :v:
Since one has to face the sun the other would block out the sun.
What would happen if you put a lens at the burning point, so the beam continues in a straight line?
You can also take a giant Fresnel lens from those huge old rear projection screen TV's and do pretty much the same.

This Picture is kinda overused now.
Next step: Ion Cannon
I have to build one!

What, you've never seen Dragonball?

The power of 5000 suns!
Just enough to light a stick on fire!
Jaimie Mantzel has this giant magnifying glass that he uses to cook meals with!

The brightness actually.
This makes me wonder that if humanity survives long enough to move it's military out into space that if we're going to be these "hostile" aliens that we fear would find us first.
I can see this concept evolving into a planet scorching weapon.
mythbusters did this already.
That is really clever. Good idea of him to use an existing dish as a basis for the design; means he can take advantage of the perfected design and manufacturing techniques that went into making the original dish.
You can see how there is room for improvement though because there is still quite a bit of spread even at the focal point of the ray. Hopefully his next model will improve on that.
My dad had a really small dish shaped just like that one, it was a cigarette lighter. :p
This Exact one:

They used mirrors that were too large and too few. never got it to work.
The brightness actually.
the title of the video says that it has the power, not brightness, of 5000 suns.
