Homeworld is by far one of the best games in existence. Really can't decide whether I prefer 1 or 2 though.
I bloody loved Homeworld. It is functionally a very sound game as well, with the way the ships are designated.
I should play some more Homeworld 2. With the Complex mod. Yes. Yes. That mod adds so much to the game. Like. Really. Try it.
Am I the only one who gets a warm, fuzzy feeling just by seeing science fiction stuff like this? I'm not really sure what it is, maybe just nostalgia from a lot of science fiction games and movies from around the late 90's/early 00's.
On a related, maybe more relevant note - should I buy Homeworld (2?) or Sins of a Solar Empire?

Neither. Pick up the original and Cataclysm. Try Xplosive and Sold out games.
Also, Cata runs pretty well under windows 8, so long as it's patched and you are using compatibility set for XP SP2.
Edit: So does the original. It even does widescreen.
With THQ being dead and all, the Homeworld IP needs to go to either Relic or Blackbird to get some use. I'd say Blackbird more than anything, since Rob Cunningham (The guy who created every ship) is the owner of the studio and one of the creative leads is also there. The Relic that made Homeworld was gone back in 2004.
Homeworld is a great game series, and pretty much the only of its kind. I much prefer the original Homeworld due to the more solid story than Two. The problem with Homeworld 2 was the original story got scrapped, we ended up getting a rushed rework combining a few of the story elements of Homeworld 2 but cutting out much of the meat. That and the retcons annoyed me a great deal.

Probably the weakest trailer for certainly the weakest game in the series.
Also, there's a mod porting the Original, campaign and all, to the Homeworld 2 engine. One of my most anticipated releases this year!
