I loved the ending. Captain D has been doing his channel since like 2007 and only has 200,000 subs. I think he of most people knows that you should just do what you can and hope people keep liking it or find it.
What a sick burn with the subscribing bit.
Pewdipie can make a video asking to get him 10 million subs as his next stunt. Edit: thought the advert contracted legacy effects.
Great video. I've used this as my Youtube taskbar link for yonks: https://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions No issues seeing new videos.
Pure excellence as always.
Another great video. Nice to see a funny video about youtubes algorithm and not resort to doing crazy dumb shit.

His commentary on the subscription issue is utter trash.
His commentary on the subscription issue is utter trash.
Well, I mean, he's right. There's now a notification button that previously was not there before that simply clicking will automatically notify you of any new uploads from whoever you enable notifications for. The algorithm didn't change, there is probably a bug for randomly losing subs, but what did change for sure is how sub content is delivered to viewers. Which honestly makes sense, because do you have any idea how annoying it would be to have 100+ notifications from all the people you are subbed to uploading videos? I'd rather have the option to enable notifications for people I want to regularly watch. It was different back in the early days of Youtube because at most you'd be subbed to maybe 20 people tops. Now with the platform being so huge and there being hundreds of thousands of good creators out there, my personal subscriptions went from around 20 to about 100. Yeah, I've subbed to about 100 people. And I still go through and look at some of their shit from time to time. But I'd be PISSED if I got notifications EVERY TIME one of them uploaded something. Makes more sense to have it manageable with an opt-in/opt-out system for notifications. Instead of making it a little inconspicuous icon, they should set it up so when you click "Subscribe" you are asked immediately if you would like to receive notifications for new uploads, rather than the default which is "occasional" and based on how often you view their content.

Or you could just order the subscriptions chronologically. It also completely ignores how fucking opaque and condescending youtube has been with all their changes.

It also completely ignores how fucking opaque and condescending youtube has been with all their changes.
They have that already though. It's called sorting by relevancy. I'm not saying there isn't some kind of underlying problem with how content is being delivered but I know for a fact that there isn't some Illuminati lizard man tin foil hat conspiracy going on like what all of these other people are talking about. Is pushing a single button seriously that difficult? You already have to push one button to Subscribe. Should that no longer be an option if pushing a little bell icon to be notified of their new content is too much work and annoying and tedious? I think the main reason they have been so "opaque and condescending" is because they are making a huge shift to mobile. I spend most of my time watching videos on my phone than I do on my computer because I'm an adult now and am not sitting at my computer 23 hours a day. It's convenient as hell to have a push notification when someone with content I enjoy has just uploaded a new video. It's tedious and annoying as all fuck to try and go through the sub feed on YouTube mobile. Could they make it better? Sure. They could redesign it so it's easier and more sensible to use. Or...I could just get notified the instant something new is uploaded. Which seems better?

That was savage.
I shouldn't need to click the bell to see shit in my subbox, now I get fucking emails all the time, it's annoying.
I shouldn't need to click the bell to see shit in my subbox, now I get fucking emails all the time, it's annoying.
But you do get vids in the subbox without the bell, the bell just notifies you over email or over the app. I prefer that over looking in the subbox for a certain youtubers new video, especially now that I've been using YouTube since 10 years you do subscribe to a lot of people.
I shouldn't need to click the bell to see shit in my subbox, now I get fucking emails all the time, it's annoying.
You can tell it to only notify via push on the Youtube app, and it is far more convenient than sifting through the sub queue of a couple hundred subscriptions trying to find something specific. Video gets uploaded from someone you've turned on notifications for and can't watch it immediately? Add it to watch later. I'm not denying that there is a problem. But it's clear that this single change to subscriptions is to make the platform more convenient to use on mobile. They need to redesign the sub feed.
Literally the entire reason I sub to people is so that their content is presented to me in my sub box, all of it. Let's say I'm subscribed to 100 people. Most of them aren't going to make a video every day. There might be ~20 videos a day. Is it really that hard to quickly scroll through 20 videos and see if I want to watch them? No, not really. It's not a real issue. Also, Youtube explicitly said that there is no bug about unsubscribing people. So, no, it's not "just a small bug" like he's saying it is. [editline]1st January 2017[/editline] Generally, I really like his content, but this one seemed a little uninformed and needlessly condescending. If he wants to call people out, then he should just do it. The passive aggressive approach is just annoying.
I'm just glad YouTube brought back the grid subbox. Being subbed to a 1000 channels is really hard to manage otherwise. Remember when we were forced to use a list?

I have literally never had any issues with my subbox. I have over 400 subs and I never really miss a video. I wish I could join the mob and grab a torch to burn Youtube like everyone else.
See the problem youtube is facing here?
Not really. Just put an option that sorts them for relevance or shows everything. There, everyone is happy. I would guess that the vast majority of users don't have 1000 subscriptions.
The problem is that you are guessing
So I guess we take YouTube's BS without doubt, got it.

I thought it wasn't affecting me either until I used an extension (I forget which one) to look at my sub feed. I noticed several videos that didn't show up in my actual on-site feed. I stopped using the extension because I hated its layout, but I'm constantly worried that I'm missing some videos.
I went to check my feed to see if this video was in it, and turns out youtube unsubbed me to him. I've read the anecdotal evidence of people saying that before, but this is the first time I've actually seen this stuff happen to me. I watched his live presentation video 2 months ago so it's not like I'm some inactive subscriber.

Maybe there was a huge fault when the counts dropped and they tried to handwave the issue.

Just curious, but anyone that has the unsubscribe problem, do you watch youtube on your phone? I've found that I had a problem with accidentally hitting the subscribe/unsubscribe button and not noticing and that I've not had the problem since I stopped using youtube on my phone.
