It's blank.
For fucksake. The videos didn't paste Edit: Alright fixed it.
Why is Dexter narrating. [editline]26th January 2012[/editline] It's really hard to focus on the documentary this way :v:
This is gonna keep me occupied for a bit. Thanks!
Episode 1, 12:19 they use the song Moving Mountains by Two Steps From Hell if anyone is curious. It's a shame they used only a tiny clip.
Just finished watching the first episode, it's a good series it looks like. Episode 1 @ 35:30 is just horrifying I can't imagine living through that.
Watched all the way up to Episode 3. Damn this shit is depressing.
I was reading about this book on Vietnam vets and our diggers were shocked that the Americans had chocolate in their rations (and magazines), our guys were still using left over WW2 rations and they used to trade stuff whenever they saw a bunch of Americans lol.
such a shameful useless war
It's hard to not get chills on my spine hearing Joe Galloway's story... Still... Such a useless war over nothing.
holy shit i watched them all at once oh my eyes oh the knowledge uhhguehugheug
Michael C. Hall's voice makes this so weird to watch. It's as if I'm watching some Vietnam centered Dexter episode :v:

The way Barry Romo worded about getting a medal, that other people died so he got a medal. For some reason I had a shiver up my spine. I can't believe, watching the second episode, that the Charles Brown guy pushed Hill 875, lost many men, and they left 2-3 days later. Only to have the enemy return to it. I just.. Can't fathom the mindset, and physiological being of some of these men went through over there. It would of been hell. Pure hell.
Any one know the song at 2:50 in Episode 4? Edit:Thanks Hakita for pointing out my mistake. Didn't realize the name of each episode was below it, not above it.
Any one know the song at 2:50 in Episode 3?
Do you mean Episode 4? There's no music at that point in Episode 3.
Awesome. I'm sure my Dad would like this too.
LBJ, how many kids have you killed today? LBJ, how many kids have you starved today?
Awesome doco, wasn't able to watch it all. I will be sure to dedicate time to this!
I wish they didn't try to make it like a Michael Bay movie. Feels slightly disrespectful.
such a shameful useless war
shameful and useless? The end result ended up being a loss; mainly due to political upheaval in the States causing the withdrawal, if the US stayed in the war South Vietnam could have won but what should the American have done in your opinion? The USSR was practically going around the world rattling every American cage and each time America backed down. How much longer could America just slink away and say "alright USSR we won't oppose you, steam roll our allies, take this, do that, etc"

We didn't lose from a military standpoint though, we pretty much annihilated the PAVN forces in every single battle. We just lost public support for the war due to Communist propaganda influencing Americas youth. That was their goal, spread their propaganda, make the US lose public support for the war, therefore they would have to cut funding and withdraw, leaving the South susceptible to being taken over by the North for one united Communist Vietnam.
Still have to see the last one, but i've changed my opinion about this war for sure.

The widespread journalistic coverage of the Vietnam War also caused public support to wither. The reason why the coverage of the Vietnam War was so much more counter-intuitive to the war than in wars in the past, say the Korean War, was because of the much more widespread use of televisions. People saw firsthand what war was like, and were disgusted by it (even though some of the wars from the past had the same kinds of things happening). From that, the anti-war movement gathered huge amounts of support, which caused the war to end prematurely of how Johnson and Nixon wanted it to. This is why war journalism is so much more limited than it was back in the 1960s. Generals don't want what goes on, both routinely and otherwise, on the field to be spun in a way that causes negative public support.
Holy shit those viet kongs were smart.

The loss wasn't a result of political upheaval in the US, the political upheaval was a result of a realisation that the war was unwinable and was based upon a flimsy premise of protecting a corrupt south Vietnamese government, disliked by as many who disliked the communists (Not to mention the government was modeled on french colonial hierarchy and was so unstable that something like 3 or 4 different successful coups were held between 1960 to 1970). The NVA on the other hand had a great nationalist backing, were completely prepared to fight continuously and had nothing to lose for trying.
Seen the last part and i have to say i am very much impressed with this docu. I've never heard of the actual combat and goings on besides the cowboy stories.
Check 6:02 in the first video hehehe
