Saw this on Twitter and I think this is a pretty good breakdown of what could be improved in Bayonetta 2 if it were to ever get some sort of "Special Edition" a-la Devil May Cry. Sadly I agree that probably a lot of the changes brought up in the video are way deeper changes than the Switch port will realistically bring but hey, a man can dream.
For someone who says he loves the game and has invested a shitload of time into it, which is clear in the footage, I feel like he doesn't actually understand the games own intentions that much. The only thing I could fully agree on with was a better framerate, and anything else I partially agree'd on was hampered by either him missing the point or having a terrible idea.
One of his points that felt like argument for the sake of it was the tight times for PurePlat ranks because that's meant to be a deliberate challenge to figure out the best solution for, not to "hamper" playing stylishly, and also the point of enemies being able to attack from off-screen or having short tells, which hasn't been much of a problem for me since I've played other action games which do things like that. It makes his point on the game being too easy with the difficulty settings slightly hypocritical, because what he's asking for is for the game to be something it inherently isn't so it's easier for him specifically.
Also, thanks for the shitty clickbait thumbnail.
The low Pure Platinum times, in my opinion, hurt the game's replayability a lot, it really does restrict your options on repeat playthroughs. The first game was balanced around the idea that you could strip away all of the player's extra abilities like Witch Time and Accessories, give them a joke weapon like the Handguns and they could still Pure Platinum the game on Non-Stop if they were a bad enough [del]dude[/del] dudette. That adds a lot of replay value, at least for me. You can't do that in Bayo 2 when some verses literally have 20-30 second Pure Platinum times. I've tried playing Bayo 2 without Witch Time, or Umbran Climax, using just the Handguns. I'm fairly confident that there are some verses where getting Pure Plat like that is straight up impossible.
In terms of the difficulty, the problem is more that there's no middle ground, like he said in the video. Your difficulty options are either Super Babby Mode, Normal, or Fuck You Mode once you know what you're doing. That's fine if you just wanna play the game once on every difficulty, but having no middleground between Normal and Infinite Climax is frustrating when you wanna up the difficulty without having to deal without having to deal with the bullshit Infinite likes to throw at you. Hard in Bayo1 is my favorite difficulty to just play casually when I wanna kill time.
(I won't argue about the thumbnail tho, it's not great)
