Simply astonishing.
A respectful homage to Shirow Masamune’s manga and Mamoru Oshii’s seminal film “Ghost in the Shell”, this is a modernized direction that still tries to stays true to the original creator’s vision. What started as a photo tribute directed by Ash Thorp and Tim Tadder (photography), soon became a worldwide collaboration of more than 20 artists from around the world, with each and everyone coming together to help breath life into the project, resulting in the artistic interpretation you see below. For a film that was a comment on the uber-connected society of the future, Project 2501 ended up being itself an example of how this collaborative group of creatives are so connected ourselves. Many of us never met beyond the communications provided by the vast and infinite net, but still came together to make the ultimate tribute to “Ghost in the Shell”. Everyone of us wanted the opportunity to pay homage to a ground-breaking film that gave us so much. We sincerely hope you enjoy our effort to capture the energy and beauty of the original film’s title sequence.
www.gits2501.com
It wouldn't be a Vimeo-approved production unless it was 90% pretentious hipster artsy shots of production and 10% mediocre thing you've just listened to hipster art majors hyping for five minutes It did not disappoint
hipster hipster hipster hipster fedora m'lady
Gah. Have you seen the Ghost in the Shell Movies? Or maybe read the mangas or at least watched the series? Ghost in the Shell is one of those properties where everything you just decried this production for makes perfect sense because of its high-concept ideas, ludicrous production values and the sheer amount of love and effort associated with its work. Before you go and mock something as pretentious and fedora-tipped I suggest you look these things up for a little bit of context first.
Is Ghost in the Shell worth watching if you really don't like anime but like cyberpunk?
It depends on what you don't like about anime. If it's the art style then I think you'll enjoy it for its near-future cyberpunk aesthetic. If it's the general notion that all anime is about high school children battling something-or-others then don't worry, Ghost in the Shell is nothing like that. It's one of those animes that "people who don't like anime" enjoy, can't go into detail right now though. Edit: Just as an aside, treat the movies and the series as belonging in separate canons if you plan on watching. Also watch the series first, it'll prepare you for the onslaught of brain-melting theorisms and philosphamacations of the movies.
The only reason most people probably watched this was because there was like 10 scenes where it showed, 1. Ass, 2. Pussy, and then most of all, 3. Tits.

Ghost in the Shell is one of those shows that could have been done in any medium really. It being an anime doesn't matter to itself, that is just what it happens to be a part of.

So is this still in development? Cause I was waiting for the whole video to show the end product when it suddenly left me hanging with some credits.
