TotalBiscuit did this video in response

I just realized "TotalBiscuit" translates to "TotalCookie" and "TotalCracker" depending on dialect
Sum Cookie
Why would they interview KSI about this, his viewer base comes from Youtube, why not interview a LoL, Dota or one of the dozens of charity streamers/orginizers that get thousands of views daily
so basically

Why I agree that the first introduction sentence was stupidly derogatory and having KSI on screen wasn't the best idea, the small clip seems to mostly introduce WHAT Twitch IS rather than explaining WHY people watch it in the first place, which is what is focused on TB's video.
I mean half of BBC's Newsnight explains it's presence and growth on the market in numbers while TotalBiscuit's video explains none of that, I feel like both article just had a different end goal.

They should have interviewed Vinesause.

"Who would want to watch teenagers play their video games all night?" (said every parent ever)
followed by
"It turns out that number runs into many millions"
Says to me that they are admitting they were wrong all this time. Which seems to be the theme of the whole video.
it wasn't that bad, I don't know why people are getting so worked up

It's especially embarrassing to see this
it wasn't that bad, I don't know why people are getting so worked up
Because, at least to me, the first part of the video is basically saying "who wants to watch all these losers play games? A whole lot of other losers." and the guy talking is basically like "You ask an older person about it, they're probably not going to be down for it." Just seemed kinda derogatory. Maybe just me though.

You've never heard a report start by posing a question? He never called them losers.
Why aren't BBC using a neutral tone for an informative short?
You've never heard a report start by posing a question? He never called them losers.
A rhetorical question that attacks the idea of the service by playing it off as something silly.
You've never heard a report start by posing a question? He never called them losers.
You don't really pick up on tone and implications well. He never said they were losers, no, but you could tell by his voice that he clearly didn't care and thought they were losers. Besides, just the very wording of the question is condescending. "Who would want to watch teenagers play their video games all night?", that doesn't sound condescending and uncaring to you?
A rhetorical question that attacks the idea of the service by playing it off as something silly.
Actually he answered it immediately after so it isn't rhetorical. I feel like I'm the only one who actually watched the video.

This is common practice in journalism. You pose a question in a way you know will get a specific reaction out of people, in this case "lol yeah what a bunch of losers", then you answer the question with some surprising facts, in this case "actually millions of people all over the world do you chode".

they probably realized that they fucked up
The piece is perfectly fine, the idea behind that first sentence is to grab peoples attention and considering this was on Newsnight rather than a piece in the middle of the day shows that they know that it'll be the sort of people that thinks games are just for kids which is why they pretty much immediately go on to say that there's millions of people that watch stuff on Twitch, there's literally no reason to get upset by this, it's not a 5 minute argument as to why gamers are shit and deserve to be shot in the streets.
they probably realized that they fucked up
Or people are just seeing TotalBiscuits video on reddit or wherever, not bothering to actually watch the original video and just thumb it down.

You're missing the point. Even though he's like "fuckin' millions dude", his TONE still speaks of disinterest. I'm not talking about how journalism works, i'm talking about the fact that the journalist brushed off millions of people and an amazing service. That's just it, there's nothing else to it. He's not making his first statement seem any better when he keeps the same condescending attitude for the follow up.
Besides, I literally said this is probably just me, you don't have to get up in arms about it.

No, a rhetorical question is one that is asked to make a point.

Or maybe you just want to be offended to get that "pfff the big news outlets at it again not understanding my subculture"
Or maybe you just want to be offended to get that "pfff the big news outlets at it again not understanding my subculture"
I'm not really offended nor do I consider streaming video games my subculture, or even a culture at all in the sense of the word. My point entirely consisted of "this is an awful big part of the media to brush off", basically. Anything past that is your own thinking.
like many other media outlets across the globe, the BBC is absolutely terrible
they have the trustworthiness of RT in my opinion, being government funded and backed
I just realized "TotalBiscuit" translates to "TotalCookie" and "TotalCracker" depending on dialect
But did you realize that TB is short for tuberculosis? Don't eat that cookie!

Your initial statement had so much "own thinking" I pretty much had no clue. My point is that there is the positive way to interpret it that news bit and the negative and you chose the negative and that's the most likely reason I could think off god why do I have to explain you to yourself?
I honestly expected worse.
While the whole thing about Twitch being watched by young teenagers (=13-16 years?) instead of young adults was really weird and the part about esport being rather condescending, I have seen worse.
In Germany they had a short piece on Gamescom 2011 and it was the most offensive piece of bullshit to have ever been aired on TV.
http://vimeo.com/34266170
It's German, but just to get a general feel. This are some actual quotes from the video:
"If aliens were to land on Earth they would feel right at home at the Gamescom"
"We know Gamescom is weird, but there are really, really weird people there."
"What's strange about those cosplayers? The way the look? The fact that they drink beer? That they are cosplaying? The answer is EVERYTHING is weird about them!"
"At some point in life every teenager has to decide if they want to buy a razor or a video game. If you make the wrong choice you end up here"
"Do you have a girlfriend?" "No" "Why not!?"
And that was just the first 2 minutes 30 of the 5 minutes, but I can't watch any more of that shit.

Beats me, I knew what I was talking about and so did several other people it seems, you and Scot seem to be the only ones that don't get where i was going. Besides, there's a positive and negative to most things. I chose the negative and straight uo said that it was probably just me that felt that way, that was as far as it was supposed to go until you two came along.
