Some things to note This is a 100% brand new engine, it doesn't use Reverse engineered code, it is all based on observation It will require the original game to play The AI is also being redone from scratch. All art is placeholder There is a MODDB page http://www.moddb.com/mods/xwvm/news/hello-and-faq
I've read through the entire FAQ and I'm still not sure what they're doing and how it works. The graphics are running in Unity, but are they hooking into the game's DLLs for the logic or something? Why doe sit require the original game? Those obviously aren't the models from the original game either, which means they're just remodeling everything from scratch. Is it only reading the mission files and nothing else, and that's why it requires the original game? Is that only reason it requires the original game? It doesn't seem like it's using anything else based on how much they're talking about re-writing from scratch. This seems like it's really pushing the boundary of what you're allowed to call a mod. [editline]30th December 2016[/editline] Definitely looks cool though, and is ultra-faithful to the original game, quirks and all.
Mission files and sounds. Some of the ship models are from the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project (with permission) In fact the original thread for the project was on their forums.

Holding out for a TIE Fighter mod, as unlikely as that may be.
