Couldn't figure out if it's embeddable without HTML...
Fuck yes. Can't wait.
Also, Valve are fucking amazing at trailers.
This looks great.
A free level creator that works along with Steam Workshop. Best DLC Ever.
I have a feeling I will be playing Portal 2 a lot more because of this.
I hope you can export to Hammer for fine tuning.
I didn't expect it to be capable of editing the surrounding. I thought the editor was 2D and you only get some prefabricated environments/rooms.
Not sure what to think of it though. It will flood the workshop with so many generic levels, you won't find any/many which were made in Hammer with dirty/broken environments, scripted scenes or generally something new and innovative.
It'll be useful for setting up the key elements. I would design the rest in Hammer.

There will be a rating system. The good ones will float. Oh yes. They flooatt.
I think I'll keep to the SDK
There will be a flood of simple maps, but good mappers will still load the maps into hammer for a detailing pass, this will get let them get the base geometry and objectives down quicker.
Also, I love the style and humour of the Aperture videos, and J.K. Simmons.

If it saves as a .bsp, you could always decompile this.
I seriously doubt it saves it as a plain .bsp file, it still needs to compile it first and I doubt they stuffed vbsp/vvis/vrad into the actual binary itself.
If anything, it'll be like the Alien Swarm editor where it saved the map as a temporary .vmf file, then compiled that.

Actually, this makes more sense. Yeah, I think they will be saved as .vmfs. Or at least stored in a different file as a vmf.
Goddamn I love Valve's sense of humor. :v:
I remember when they said they were going to do that a long time ago.
I'm super excited about this. It'll make map making for Portal 2 so much easier.
Although, I'm sure we'll see a huge influx of bad maps.

You mean after 10 pages of five star rated playgrounds/sandboxes, you will find some good challenges rated 3 stars? That's how I know the community.
Anyway, I hope it makes me play the game more. I didn't really download any maps, even though I would love play some crazy maps with world portals.
"Look at that sad little octopus.. hahe"
But honestly this does look like a really nice tool apart from Hammer. Well done Valve!

Find a way to make map makers using this realise that scripted events will get them 5 stars easily?
Look at 1:12 at the lower right corner, is that Meet the Pyro? I see fire.
Great trailer, I love the useful forklift.
Edit: I noticed something else: You can't build crushers. :(
At 1:19 it looks like someone is watching porn on their computer.
1:17, a man holding a crowbar on one of the computer screens.
And here's some gifs:

Half Life 3 confirmed
valve is teasing us with HL3 so much now, first with the HL3 logo in the VALVe handbook and now this >:(

The handbook was for employees. Goddamn.

they released it
they released it
I know. But it's not a deliberate HL3 teaser. It's probably just a reference to the HL3 shirt candle.
I think I see a glimpse of the 'meet the pyro' trailer there.

am I the only one seeing the resemblance? I mean what else could it be?
hurry the fuck up and release that new TF2 update, valve.
Seeing footage of it, even a glimpse like in the video, has made me more hyped than ever.
I need that god damn short, right now!
