Judging books by their covers is not good! Well-made video, 10/10.

I get where this video is going and all, but the video itself feels really drawn out and long.
Would've worked better if it was shorter.
Slender is about immersing your self into the game. In away you've got to feel as if you are actually there.. very similar to amnesia. If you don't take it seriously in this way, then you aren't going to find it very scary or interesting.

It's a very good game, when played in the correct fashion

Unlike games like Amnesia though, this game looks like garbage in every aspect making it hard to take seriously when it looks so hilariously bad.

Except that it's not immersive at all so you can't immerse yourself in it.

I loved Slender for the atmosphere and idea and all, but the crappy models and frustratingly slow character made for an extremely clunky and unplayable experience.
Still scared the bejesus outta me, though.
I think the concept of slenderman could be a good game, but what we have gotten so far don't really do the character justice.
It's sad how this shoddy game gets more publicity than SCP : Containment Breach.

Please dont compare slender to Amnesia.
Slender is an ugly game where the dev couldnt even manage to align textures and the game was nothing more than obscure notes that actually mean nothing to a story that means nothing, to a horror game that isnt scary at all, just dark and loud, that some youtubers played for more views and it got word of mouth and people started circlejerking it.
While Amnesia had a full on story, motivations for WHY you were doing what you were doing on top of already trying to stay alive(the only thing slender has going for it) amazing atmosphere and level design, all generally very scary the first time through, and it was even a good game and that looked nice and ran nice.
It also had actual gameplay besides walking and the monsters did not look like a fucking piece of shit.

Containment Breach really isn't all that much better, though.
Containment Breach really isn't all that much better, though.
But it has actual gameplay mechanics in it that make it unique and its been said its very Alpha, if it ever gets finished, probably not, but it has dynamic levels and a cool blinking mechanic and some other cool shit in it.
At least it has a fucking story to it instead of being dropped in the woods looking for kindergarden drawings.
My problem with it is that the "notes" are really just an excuse to get the player to walk around and get scared. This is the reason why all good horror games are linear.
Yes it's a pretty ugly game, yes if you don't know who the slender man is it could not be as fun, yes for some people it may not be as scary as it is for others and yes it was over-hyped by fans and Youtube videos. It's so easy to criticize things.
Bottom line is it's a FREE game made by one man.
He comes across as pretentious and snobby, but I can't say I don't agree with him.
I disagree with him, but only a little bit. The first time you play it, it IS scary... then it becomes completely, well, not-scary.
It also depends on the person.
The game is good for maybe one jump scare and that's it. Good idea for a game, but poorly executed.
it isn't scary to be followed around by an un-moving mall mannequin in a shitty graphics forest
it only got popular because of these dumbass let's players on youtube exploiting 12-year-olds for views/cash
The first time I played it I got fucking spooked out, but the second I saw the model I burst out into laughter.
I cannot replay this game for two reasons, one because after the first time it just isn't scary and second that the gameplay is extremely boring and shitty. I'll give it credit for its atmosphere though.

I don't understand your point. Are you arguing that we shouldn't criticize it because it was made by one man? Because I can come up with several examples of great games made by one man. Are you arguing that we shouldn't be so harsh on it because it was free? Because I can come up with several examples of great games that are also free. Are you arguing that we shouldn't criticize it because it's better if you understand the Slenderman mythos? Because I can think of several of off-shoot games that are easily accessible to both fans and newcomers alike.
I don't care how free it is, or how indie it is, or whatever. It's an objectively terrible game, and it doesn't deserve pity points for any reason.

I have played scarier flash games than slender, and better.
First one to come to mind is The Intruder.

Just because something is free it shouldn't be held in any higher regard.
It's scary at first, and the reason is because you don't know what to expect; but once you play it once you can simply shrug it off because it loses that mystery. Just about any horror game can suffer from this problem though; what really ruins Slender is the length and lack of dynamics to it. You know exactly what to expect and won't forget about key "Jump" scares because there really aren't any.
However, take a game like Silent Hill 2 which perfected Horror and suspense, and regardless of how many times you play through it the atmosphere sucks you in and a lot of the time you forget about the subtle scares that happen throughout.

Just because it is free and/or made by one dude doesn't give it immunity to criticism.
Everyone seems to hate it suddenly, I remember a few weeks ago everyone was having fun with it, what changed? It was never an amazing game, but I never thought it was bad.
Just because it is free and/or made by one dude doesn't give it immunity to criticism.
You are right, but it does make it immune to all the hate it has been getting in this forum. The game was free and so if you didn't enjoy it, it wasted 10 minutes of your time (because it was so short) and that is it, you should just move on with your life and don't moan about it.
If you want to be annoyed at anyone, be annoyed at all the fans that hyped it up so much. The developer didn't hype it up nor force you to play it - he just released a game to the world, which took him hours of work, for nothing
I guess it just irritates one to know that it could be better.
