Though it's extremely old, I just watched it and thought how much does your wife have to love you, to stay with you even if you can't remember what happened 30 seconds ago.
First thing I thought of:
Great movie.
Thought of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clive_Wearing His Hippocampus has been severely destroyed to the point where his explicit memory is non existent. He has implicit memories, routine memories, but he only declares and knows things right as he says them.

This is so sad.
I doubt he even watched the video and assumed what it was about and had to get his link in before anybody else.
Makes me happy I have even such a poor memory as I do
I feel terrible for his wife, having to watch him suffer like that.

At least he has a loving wife to take care of him. I could only imagine how terrible his life would be if he was put in some nursing home or something.
It's awful seeing him say the exact same things over and over again in slightly different ways. On the Wikipedia article, it talks about a diary he kept:
In a diary provided by his caretakers, Clive was encouraged to record his thoughts. Page after page is filled with entries similar to the following: 8:31 AM: Now I am really, completely awake. 9:06 AM: Now I am perfectly, overwhelmingly awake. 9:34 AM: Now I am superlatively, actually awake. (In the article, those first two are crossed out) Earlier entries are usually crossed out, since he forgets having made an entry within minutes and dismisses the writings–he does not know how the entries were made or by whom, although he does recognize his own writing. Wishing to record the important life event of "waking up for the first time", he still wrote diary entries in 2007, more than two decades after he started them.
It must be awful, both for him and his wife. Things like this show how fascinating the human brain is, but at the same time what can happen if it goes wrong.
Isn't this a bit like what the guy in memento had?
Isn't this a bit like what the guy in memento had?
It's the same problem, it's just an extremely extreme case. But he also has the other form of amnesia, retrograde.
As soon as the music stops, however, Wearing forgets that he has just played and starts shaking spasmodically. These jerkings are physical signs of an inability to control his emotions, stemming from the damage to his inferior frontal lobe. His brain is still trying to fire information in the form of action potentials to neurostructures that no longer exist. The resulting encephalic electrical disturbance leads to fits.
oh god
This is really sad. He seems like such a nice man.
Every time his wife walks out of the room and back in it's as if he hasn't seen her in 30 years. <3
Aw man, when he got excited about seeing his wife, that got me.
I doubt he even watched the video and assumed what it was about and had to get his link in before anybody else.
Isn't this bannable? Or was it perhaps in the Sensationalist thingy forum.
My memory used to be bad, but it's actually improved quite a bit, so now I'd say it's average, perhaps even above average, which is pretty amazing because I'd forget everything I really fast before. I wonder why that is.
oh god
Christ, that's awful.
