Really glad these guys convinced the dog to face away from death. Freaking unbelievable, made me tear up a bit. What was covering the wound though, in the end? Looked like stone, but I'll say it's a cast.

This is actually probably why he made it.
This is beyond incredible to be able to come back from the brink of death, grow back all that missing flesh and come out looking like a normal dog.

They probably used skin from somewhere else on his body, it's relatively common in stuff like this.
I don't know what they filled the hole underneath it with. Probably some silicone stuff?

Reminds me of that picture of the (World War I?) soldier whose entire front face was blown off, including his entire mouth being wide open. Somehow they managed to give him a serviceable face, despite presumably using 100-year-old procedures. It's fucking incredible what life can survive from.

It was originally hidden within all the swelling. Once the wound was cleaned and disinfected and the swelling went down, his left eye was able to be seen again. Really glad he got at least one good eye to enjoy his life with.
This video is awfully sad and I'm really happy he got given a second chance. Broke my heart when they said he crawled into that hole to die.

the maggots probably played a big role in saving him. Keeps the wound cleaner, and makes it a whole lot easier to do a washout with saline w/ antibiotics.
