Why
I think he did it as a joke, but the producer and weatherwoman didn't like it. (The producer probably thought it would be bad for the news station, which it would.) I don't really think he meant it nor thought it meant chatting.
It seems to me that he really thought it was "chat", I mean it fits the context.
"Maybe we can chat (canoodle) before you get into it, about aa... (producer tells him to shut up)"
That would've been so amazing if they just porked in front of the camera, it's like the least likely surprise porno.
"Take it away, get me off.
