Good on him. Tailgating is one of the worst (and most ubiquitous) driving behaviors out there.

I take it you've never driven in NYC before

following a biker like that is beyond regular tailgating. It's like a chase scene out of a horror movie
there's a fucking sidewalk right there. while that in no way excuses this asshole tailgater bikes really don't belong on the road.

NYC is kind of a special circumstance. With the population density being what it is, aggressive (though not necessarily reckless) driving is the norm in that city, at least from what I've seen in the few times I've been there.
"I want you to know that I care."
It's refreshing to see law enforcement in a good light for a change.

it's fucking illegal to ride your bike on a sidewalk in the city and this doesn't counter-excuse the dude for nearly running a bicyclist over. You're treated as a car as far as traffic laws go, and are restricted to riding on the right side of the road with traffic to your back. If there's a bike lane it helps but if there isn't you're roughin' it

I'm pretty sure bikes are supposed to use the roads like normal cars do.
(damn ninjas)

In a lot of places it's illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalk.
This is why more places need designated bike lanes.

Tailgating a motorbike/motorcycle?
How fucking dumb do you have to be
jagoff is such a satisfying word when used at the right time
That's really nice of the cop and the guy he talked to later down the road. I wish knew people that would be friendly to strangers like that.
Everybody hates it when someone rides a bike in the street. They go slower than your car, and it's awkward to drive around them.
You know it to be true. I bet you all swear to yourselves whenever someone on a bicycle is slowing you down. There's no need to deny it.

Chances are you won't be held up behind a biker for more than a minute at most on a road that doesn't have a bike lane, and if the road doesn't have a bike lane the speed limit likely isn't going to be very high. It's best to give them proper space and be patient and get where you're going maybe a minute or two later than intended. Unless you have someone dying in your back seat, you're never in such a rush anywhere that a minute or two will make a difference.

Well boo fucking hoo, they're within their rights to do it if there's no bike lane, doesn't give you the right to fucking almost run them over.
Goddam that whole video felt awesome. The kickass cop and the support from everyone else.

Yeah but if you live in a city it's illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalk (usually if you're not a minor).
Have some proof, straight off my city's website:

How is that relevant at all? Tailgating like this is an easy way to MURDER someone. Perhaps you think you're teaching them a good ol' lesson by driving like an incompetent asshole?
Maybe they should just pedal 10 mph down the same sidewalk as people walking around with their children and pets as well!!
Fucking hate cyclists, well not all cyclists, some of them have the decency to cycle on the footpath. The ones who cycle on the road piss me off, 9 times out of 10 they're wearing a skin suit and I have to stare at their ass for 5 - 10 minutes, it's almost always a male as well.
I'd be more forgiving of them if they actually showed some respect to other road users. Why don't they pull into the side of the road every few minutes to let the traffic past? Tractor drivers do this and it's more inconvenient for them to do it than it would be for cyclists.
My experience with cyclists is based on driving on A roads, I imaging the situation would be different in the City where the pavement is busy with pedestrians and traffic moves slower. Absolutely no excuse out in the country when a good majority of the road has a footpath that's never used by pedestrians.

Of course it's fucking annoying. Doesn't mean you tailgate them like an asshole though. They're legally doing nothing wrong so you be patient and get over it.

It sounds like your biggest issue with cyclists is that it brings out your inner homophobe. And it's definitely illegal to ride your bike 30 miles an hour on a city sidewalk.

No, because i'm not a douchebag. Also, you can clearly see a speedometer on his handlebar, he was going 25-30 miles per hour and a good cyclist can easily go over that. Slower than a car my ass, unless you're straight up on a high way, a bike could easily match or surpass your speed.

Cyclists traveling at 30MPH? Do they have jet engines attached to their bikes where you're from?
Where I drive they'll rarely go above 20MPH, there's also a lot of hills which slows them down to about 5MPH. Also I'm giving my experience with busy country roads, I understand that things would be different in a city.
I'll reiterate, my biggest problem with cyclists is that they show no respect to other road users. If they must cycle on the road then why don't they pull in now and again and walk their bicycles uphill?
The bike wasn't going slow, he was hovering around 30 or above the whole time and the sign said 30 as well.

And it's now become evident that you have no idea what you're talking about and are pulling evidence for your argument out of your ass. Maybe give the video a watch and save yourself any further embarrassment.

You're an idiot. A. Yes, average speed for a cyclist hovers around 25 mph or so but some can get up to 30-35 if reasonably fit or more. B. Lots of hills obviously means they'll go slower, amazing critical thinking skills and it's part of the challenge and the whole, you know, getting into shape thing to actually ride up the hills instead of walking them.
And they don't have to show respect, normal cars don't show respect to other drivers and bikes are treated as cars if they're going over the open road, as has previously been mentioned. You wouldn't expect someone to get out of their car and push it up a hill, would you?
Still, Cyclists are the worst people on the roads, which is why so many people hate them. I was stuck behind some the other day taking up both lanes at 20 - 30kph in a 60 zone uphill. Also a lot still think they're above the law, run red lights, and don't indicate with their arms about their intentions on the road.
And where I live, we legally need to give them 1.5m clearance on the road when passing them, so you get bus drivers and cars dodging into oncoming lanes over solid lines when cyclists go past or you need to overtake one on a hill because they're causing a traffic jam.
Guy in the vid might have been going a little slow, but definitely not slow enough to be tailgated that badly that a cop needed to intervene.

Are you reading my posts at all? I'm giving my perspective as a British COUNTRYSIDE driver, not a city driver. I know that cycling and driving is likely to be different in a city, but I've never driven in a city, so can't comment on it. From what I see in the video, the cyclist seems to be able to keep up with the flow of traffic pretty well, this is NOT the case where I drive.
Have I made myself clear now? If not, you're bound to see this:

Also, can someone explain to me what's stopping cyclists from pulling in now and again to let a build up of traffic past, that's what the majority of tractor drivers do. If cyclists can't cycle uphill at a decent speed, why can't they push their bikes uphill?
