If YouTube is doing this entirely to get rid of "them there drama channels" why doesn't it just remove them? I mean they're a private company. I know there's a bunch of reasons but none of them seem compelling enough, especially for a company trying to court advertisers.

Because Google rather let robots do the judgemental thinking and not actual humans.
The big joke is that Lvl 4 heroes and above are the only ones who will talk to the ever elusive Youtube Staff.
A big irony that a social site like Youtube is becoming even more anti social around the community they created!
