From what Konami has already done to silent hill, I can see value in them completely collapsing, so that should make it easier for Kojima to buy them up.

It boils down to childishness on part of the company's owners and operators and the inability to see beyond Japanese markets.
That is a problem with many Japanese entertainment providers now. They still have an isolated mindset and can't fathom the North American market as being anything more than an afterthought.
