Beyond Black Mesa is a short Independent fan film Inspired by the Half-Life Video Game series. This is an action packed short film centering around Adrian Shephard and a band of resistance fighters struggling to get out a warning about the impending invasion. - Independent short film - 2 years in the making - Endless hours of post - 1 Canon HV20 - 7 Friends - $1,200 budget for the full short film. This film is not HL,HL2 or Opposing Forces. It's a short fan film that takes place in the Half-Life world. Also, as a completely independent film, we wanted to have a creative voice in the movie and make it a movie that we would enjoy shooting. We took artistic freedoms and liberties, unfortunately most of those decisions were determined by our limited resources. Check out: BEYONDBLACKMESA.COM Directed by Brian Curtin Producer: Matt Hall, Mat Powell Actors/Grips: Joy Gravel, Walt Thomas, Andrew Gothard Special Tracks: Nate Quarterman Narrator: Taylor Robinson Audio Mastering: Eric Chapman
Very nice visuals, sound effects, story and music selection. But god dammit, it's too short. They over hyped this. Everyone expected it to be a full movie.
I will do anything to see this movie go foward. I might even get some more finanical support towards this project.
the end fight what the fuck
I dislike the Super Moves and the wrong combine gas mask.Sorry but this shit matters to a fan.
Green Flu? :raise: [editline]21st January 2011[/editline] Seriously, look at those zombies, its like the virus from Left 4 Dead.
what the fuck are those zombies where are my lovable headcrabbies
Very cheesy combat, but the atmosphere in the scenery is very great.
what the fuck sword fight [editline]21st January 2011[/editline] what the fuck automerge
what the fuck are those zombies where are my lovable headcrabbies
Oh dont worry, its just that the combine unleashed the zombie strain in L4D onto the world, which explains the events of the Left 4 Dead universe. God Damnit.
l4d zombie in hl2. :raise: also ninja fighting in hl2 is not cool or fitting.
Well, It surely was a nice movie. Not really canon, though.
l4d zombie in hl2. :raise: also ninja fighting in hl2 is not cool or fitting.
1. I think its because they couldnt propperly edit in headcrabs. 2. It aint ninja fighting, its Kung Fu. [editline]21st January 2011[/editline]
Well, It surely was a nice movie. Not really canon, though.
It could be... Cause they all died.
The wrong combine gas masks gets me as well. But I'd love to see them make a longer film, it would be amazing.
what the fuck katana
what the fuck katana
That isnt a katana. Its more like a machete than a katana.
When the sword came out I was like That doesn't fucking fit.
Really impressive atmosphere/setting ,some nice props like the medkit and overall great effects and editing! But I just can't get over how they all looked too clean with fresh haircuts and stuff,they'd need to be more worn/dirty with scratches and stuff. Especially the girl having makeup what the fuck was that. And yes what kind of zombies were those and the super-moves as above stated were cheesy for a half-life movie.
That was pretty bad.
Wow, come on, they use certain sounds totally out of place. I was like :raise: when I heard the SMG1 grenade launch sound for the flare Adrian Shephard was holding. The resource usage would have been fantastic if they at least used proper sounds in the right places. I'm disappointed, though. [editline]21st January 2011[/editline] Yeah, I'm really disappointed. I'd kinda give it a C+ or a B-.
I thought it was really good, I don't see why everyone is complaining about the tiniest errors, this was an amazing project made by some random people who are not professionals. Gets an A+ in my book.
I'm sure they put a lot of effort into this and the end effect is fantastic. But the not following canon thing just stands out too much.
The fact that there were L4D like zombies, a sword, and them dying overall is what makes me mad. Like above, shit matters. I'm sure I saw a video or picture of a metrocop mask being made using a mold, and a suit/radio. I liked the suits though, seemed beta-like.
Impressive movie and editing and all, but it didn't really have to take place in the HL universe. The acrobatic fighting, non-headcrab zombies and various inconsistent story elements with the HL storyline doesn't really show they put a lot of effort into studying the HL universe. It's like they just needed a theme and choose Half-Life, so they could get some publicity from the large fanbase.
Feels, overhyped. I mean ninja-Adrian? And Sword combine? Kinda off-topic, but is that CGI HL2 movie still in the making?
It was okay. I liked the grenade effects, but the holographic screens didn't really fit in well with the 'torn-down' eastern european setting of Half-Life 2.
It look really cool and the special effects were awesome. My only problem was that in the end, it started raining bits of Shephard and that girl everywhere. Also, fat asian guy died first ;_;

Gets an A+ in my book.
I've seen <500 dollar fanfilms with visual effects that look like they were literally made in GIMP or something like that, with even less respect for the source material; that were actually great. This is just a poorly made film with a throwaway plot. Closer to home, Escape From City 17 was great, truncated as it was to just part 1. The whole cube thing was amazing and that barely even had anything to do with Half-Life. But this is a couple of guys running around in some deserted whatever with a camera and jacking off in After Effects.
Why is Adrian Shepard (an ex US Marine) wearing a hipster scarf?
Also, fat asian guy died first ;_;
He was the largest target, he must have been stealing food rations. But really all the resistant fighters looked way too clean cut, even the dead ones. I hate to knock the movie but it could of been way better.
