Just bought this game a few days ago, after beating HR
This might sound stupid, but does anyone know a way to make the game feel... more modern?
Like, with better controls and stuff?
yeah you can edit the control scheme, amazing right? pretty new feature.

Look, I apologize again for sounding stupid, but even after tweaking the controls, there's plenty of stuff that won't work, due to so many things having their own keybinding (For example, zooming in with a scope bound to [ ). I was looking for something that simplifies things a bit like in HR
And there's no need to talk like a smartass...

The mods HDTP and New Vision can improve the visuals but you're never really going to get it to be "modern". Which controls exactly are giving you trouble?

Like I've said, zooming in, using augments, et cetera
What irks me the most is having to take my hand off the mouse to access an augmentation. I'd like to isolate the controls to the left side of the keyboard.
Also, for some reason, the Function keys seem dedicated to augmentations, and I can't bind Quick Save/Quick load to any F key
Deus Ex is praised to hell and back but it really didn't age well at all
I'm almost positive you can rebind the scope at least.

I remember trying to play this game on a laptop in college.
The game was way too dark for my setup at the time.
I should give it another go.

Quick save is the + key on your keypad and load is the * key.

Get the mod GMDX. Allows you to set keys for each Aug slot (This might be vanilla functionality. Anyway, you still can't bind other controls to the Function keys, not that I've tried though), adds a few nice little features and polish (Different hit sounds and particles for different surfaces for example, among shitloads of little quality-of-life improvements and options), rebalances the skills so the ones that you'd never take are actually relevant, AI improvements, a mantling system, and a couple new weapons - 2 out of 3 of which aren't enabled unless you've completed a playthrough (or edit the ini to dupe the game into thinking you have), and are otherwise pretty hard to find and neither better nor worse than the existing weapons. That's the tip of the iceberg though.
Just don't enable "auto-holster on object interaction/pickup" or whatever it is, produces a nasty bug (soon to be fixed) where it drops a "DO NOT PLACE" object in place of the body. I can deal with it for all the improvements though.
Oh it also comes packaged with HDTP and NewVision which improve the looks of, well, most things. Debatable in the case of named-character models, but if you launch vanilla with HDTP enabled, and disable the individual ones then launch GMDX, those changes carry over. The Stealth Pistol's model from HDTP fucking sucks dry arse though, afaik there's no way to disable that without editing files. You can suppress the 10mm though, if you can find one of the ~4 mods throughout the game.

And yes, this
Deus Ex is praised to hell and back but it really didn't age well at all
the only thing that didn't age well is the graphics
the gameplay and narrative remain exemplary even for 2016
[editline]28th August 2016[/editline]
as long as you mostly use stealth and exploration like you're so clearly meant to

This has been my go-to binding for quick save / load ever since I played DX. I hate using the F keys for it now.
Middle Mouse Button is what I usually use for for zooming/sniping. You could try that.
