[POSSIBLE SILENT HILL 2 SPOILERS IN THE VIDEO!] Yo! I'm usually really hesitant about posting stuff I made in here, but I figured some people might enjoy this. Since the early Silent Hill games are probably my favorite horror games of all time, and Yamaoka's soundtrack definitely the glue that holds these games together, I decided to cover my favorite song off the Silent Hill 2 OST - Promise. I recorded the guitars and the bass, programmed the drums and synths and mixed/mastered everything by myself. I'm a nu-metal artist, so I gave the heavy part of the original song my own twist, while trying to stay true to Akira Yamaoka's own style. I recently shot a video for it, and if you're a sucker for Yamaoka like myself, you may like this! Oh, and if you feel like downloading my version of the song, feel free to head over to my SoundCloud and do so! There was a good survival horror series here It's gone now
There was a good survival horror series here It's gone now
It might be coming back, depending on how Silent Hills turns out! Great cover, by the way. You played the song very well. You may want to mention the video has Silent Hill 2 spoilers in it, though.

Atleast that was my impression. Thanks though, glad you enjoyed it. Oh and yeah, I really have high hopes for Silent Hills. If there's anyone left I'd trust with the series, it'd be Kojima. It's a shame that Team Silent is pretty much dead.
Awesome as hell, great job!
Silent Hill 2 is my favorite game of all time, with my favorite OST of all-time, and i'm normally very picky about any fanmade content regarding it. but this is sweet, awesome job! maybe the ONLY thing i can fault is that it was a bit too "metal" at parts, but as you said, it's your own twist on it, and you still kept it very close to how Yamaoka's work sounded, so it's not that big a deal to me. would love to hear your take on one of his heavier pieces

Really akin to my own style too, so this might be a thing for me to do in the future. Thanks!

Other than that great job, hard to create SH music since its just way too good.
The soundtracks for SH2, 3, and 4 are just fantastic. Even 5 has some good tracks, though the game itself was pretty forgettable. And 6...we don't talk about 6. This is a pretty amazing cover. Great job. Also I love how your desktop changed once the song transitioned into something a little more heavy :v:
Silent Hill 1 - 4 some of the best soundtrack's.

Honestly the soundtrack was probably the best part of Downpour.
since this has basically turned into Silent Hill audio discussion can we talk about how good this is?
Man, in terms of sheer creepiness, Silent Hill 3 > Silent Hill 2 for sure. Funny, I actually played SH3 before I played SH2, so I might be biased.
There was a good survival horror series here It's gone now
Thats because everyone was like "Lets just copy Silent Hill 2 for forever!"
Man, in terms of sheer creepiness, Silent Hill 3 > Silent Hill 2 for sure. Funny, I actually played SH3 before I played SH2, so I might be biased.
nah, you're not biased. i played the games 2 > 1 > 3 and 3 is definitely the most outright creepy of them all. the atmosphere is just downright oppressive almost the entire way through. i do think SH2 is much more well-crafted though, and i prefer its atmosphere way more than SH3.
Silent Hill 1 - 4 some of the best soundtrack's.
I always considered the SH2 soundtrack to be my favorite out of the main series, but I will always have a special place in my heart for Origin's/Zero's OST. Loved that game to death on my PSP when it came out. Also great cover of Promise Chi_DE, its defiantly one of my favorites on that soundtrack too.
I remember those damn sounds. They were made in such a way that playing on a home theatre -system made it sound like they came from your house.
I swear that this is the first song that i started learning on guitar when I started guitar. I should put down the blues and work on it like you did. Awesome cover, I used to listen to this track a lot. I love it! Good job man.
Who doesn't just love this song?

SH2 is just the most draining and well made imo, none of the monsters are really any threat but SH2 is all about atmosphere, psychological mindfucks, story, symbolism, all that jazz and it does that perfectly. At the end of the day comparing SH1/3 with 2 is kinda hard, they are so different and went for completely different things.

At 1:30 there's a lot going on, there's the lead part that's fading out (I've extended it a little further than the original), the synths for the new verse lead-in and the verse rhythm guitars. But I'm glad you enjoyed it! I also can't figure out how to multi-quote on Facepunch...I'd love to reply to everyone individually. Silent Hill and especially Silent Hill audio discussions get me all tingly! :quagmire:

Silent Hill 2 is more melancholy and depressed, which fits James far better. He's a depressed guy. Harry and Heather don't hate themselves the way James does. Each SH game is a very different beast and provides a different experience from the last, and I think that was part of the series' strength.
There was a good survival horror series here It's gone now
With Hideo on the team you can at least be guaranteed that the dog ending will be amazing.
With Hideo on the team you can at least be guaranteed that the dog ending will be amazing.
And then Pyramid head walks in spinning the great knife like a revolver. "I've been waiting for you Solid Sunderland This knife.....more than enough to kill anything that moves."
Wow, no mention of Theme of Laura anywhere? Terrible
Fantastic cover! My favorite SH track would have to be from SH3, when you fight the first boss. Choir singing and industrial clanks seem to complement each other well.

I'd love it if I could find a band with a similar sound to the vocal music of the Silent Hill series. Anyone know of something like that?
