Sounds exciting. Since this will make space travel more economical, I hope there will be more frequent launches in the future.
what people come up with this kinda technology, i wanna make this
Yay tens of grams of thrust.
In all seriousness, this is really good for long travels.

Go get a masters in engineering or physics and apply like crazy to big aerospace companies.
While this is good for space probes and satellites, you won't get anywhere fast with an ion thruster.
Guys.
GUYS.
WE HAVE ION ENGINES.

The implications of this (combined perhaps with solar sail technology) are amazing. These drives could bring men to Mars and back in record-shattering time (the current record is five months).

Depends how long you want to travel. The farther you want to travel, the longer you have to speed up, and since the efficiency is much higher, you'll end up with a higher top speed, and in the end a shorter period of travel.
holy shit, we are living in THE FUTURE

Yeah! Using those grams of thrust it could take years, even decades to get to mars!

You still need to kill off the speed you gained. If you only have an ION engine, you're going to have to retrograde at the half way point and slow down for the rest of the journey
They failed to mention that it also [I]looks so fucking cool.

what happen if you put your hand behind those thruster?
what happen if you put your hand behind those thruster?
Your hand gets hit with high energy ions, possibly causing radiation burns or just plain old burns.
I want my new lighter to be a high energy xenon ion thruster then.
Is it bad that I immediately thought of KSP upon seeing the thread title?
