Fallout 4 VR and modding, oh boy.
God damn this looks fun. PUT YOUR MONEY INTO VR.
I hear it sucks compared to other games because of being a disembodied Pip-Boy and gun. Personally can't confirm because there's no way in hell I'm paying $60 for a re-release of a game from two years ago that I already own because they didn't feel like discounting it.
The part where he starts using the mop kinda makes me want to see a VR Viscera Cleanup game.

Im surprised this guy has only two videos. I'm excited for his next videos judging from his description cause this gave me a good laugh. Edit: He also did this video
The part where he starts using the mop kinda makes me want to see a VR Viscera Cleanup game.
Just grab an IRL mop and start cleaning your house.
Fallout 4 VR and modding, oh boy.
Most Fo4 mods work out of the box including laser sight mods which are actually extremely useful in VR. I don't know if I would recommend it for $60 but I would recommend getting it at some point if you have a HMD when it goes on sale, you can just go do a lot of whacky and fun shit like said video that you can't do in boring base Fallout 4.
#RealTalk time, I am actually 100% legit extremely interested in playing Fallout 4 VR. I don't care how gimmicky it is or how scummy Bethesda are being with re-releasing constantly. If I had a HMD, I would buy FO4 VR in a heartbeat.
Fallout 4 with VR looks like a lot of fun, but I feel a bit salty about having to shell full price again for a 2 year old game I already own. Especially since buying it would only show bethesda they can get away with doing this over and over again. Somehow it feels even worse since I read the VR files can be copy/pasted into a normal game and work like a mod
Fallout 4 VR is a lot of fun, but I think a lot of people who don't already have headsets don't realize how awful the port is, and how it actually stacks up to other VR titles. An expansive openworld RPG does sound pretty fun in VR, but you guys might be surprised how much better native VR titles are, or ports done with a little bit of love. FO4VR doesn't even hold a candle to LA Noire VR. Proper interactions do a lot to making the game enjoyable. Fallout 4 VR really needed a body.
I tried this at a friend's house one night. Both of us were disappointed as hell because of the design choices they made and the fact they didn't include DLC because "codebase issues" What pissed us off more is the fact we learned later by finding out that DLC does get read, They were just too lazy to fix the issues that came with it.
FO4 VR only looks good to people who haven't played actual VR games. It's fun in the sense that you're in the game world you've only seen from your computer screen and not actually all around you but it's so far behind in terms of technology and gameplay compared to other VR games it's unreal.

I’ve been using VR since the first DK1, and once you get over the honeymoon period of “oh wow I can pick things up and throw them naturally”, I want a real, fleshed out *game*. Even if it’s not built from the ground up for VR, it’s still massively superior because it’s a real *game*.

Just imagine how hectic they'd get in the middle of a bad fight. That'd be awesome. :v:

Another good example is Dirt Rally, a friend of mine's got an Oculus Rift combined with a replica rally car seat with force feedback built in, pedals, steering wheel, and an H-shifter. Hands down the coolest thing I've ever experienced as far as gaming's concerned

Its a bare minimum VR port at the end of the day but as others have pointed its nice to be able to have a feature length game with VR support

Plus Fallout would be the perfect playground to add features other VR games might not have, like I said injecting yourself with stimpacks. I can only keep my fingers crossed that these kind of features will be added in the future, but I seriously doubt it.
tbh F4VR seems more like a desire to hop onto the hype train than to make something new and even slightly unique
I honestly really hope we start getting VR specific mods that bring it up to the standards of other VR games. As it is now, I want it but no way am I shelling out another $60 for a game I only want to play again right now because of VR

If I hadn't played VR games I might have the same opinion as you.
Seems like they wanted to find an excuse to re-release F4 while doing as little work possible to make it a VR title.
What is the most used/supported VR system?
Disagree completely. I’ve been using VR since the first DK1, and once you get over the honeymoon period of “oh wow I can pick things up and throw them naturally”, I want a real, fleshed out *game*. Even if it’s not built from the ground up for VR, it’s still massively superior because it’s a real *game*.
But if you want a real *game* but you don't want one built from the ground up for VR, don't you just want a regular video game? Even if it's just a port I fully believe VR titles need to keep pushing our understanding of game design. LA Noire, despite being a port, is the first proper VR singleplayer title with really, really nice free driving. Fallout 4 needs something like that for it to be praise-worthy, imo. I honestly don't see that much difference between playing Fo4VR and New Vegas running through VorpX. Fallout 4 has very basic motion control support, but my New Vegas VR has better performance and mods, then better quests and writing to boot. They both balance out to be about the same experience: a 2D game in a VR environment. I can't understate enough how truly underwhelming Fallout 4 VR is to the vast majority of the VR userbase. It is a very, very enjoyable experience, but only about as enjoyable as Fallout 4 was in the first place.
This looks like something I'd enjoy to fuck around with at a friends house but not cough up the dough for myself. Fo4 was under whelming when it dropped and not worth revisiting in VR, at least at its current price.
What is the most used/supported VR system?
Oculus Rift is for cheap efficiency, HTC Vive is the most proven and tested. Any others I never hear about.
Oculus Rift is for cheap efficiency, HTC Vive is the most proven and tested. Any others I never hear about.
This isn't so true anymore, they perform more or less at the same level. Honestly, even as a Vive fanboi it's hard to say anything but the Rift to be the defining VR system at the moment. You do get objectively better tracking with the Vive, as well as an easier set up (the vive is very, very easy on your USB ports, only requiring the one, where as the Rift has like three or four all up oh god) but for 800-1000 dollars compared to Rift's smooth 400? It's no contest. As long as you have that third sensor, don't mind the extra cords and have the extra USB space, Rift is the no-arguments way to go for now.
