He actually did it, the madman
this channel never fails to impress me
He's gonna make electricity soon at this rate.
He progressed into the iron age now
I like the sound it made. Almost like a steam engine. I could easily see a clip or movie of some dude using this and then it segues into a railway locomotive chugging along.
I'm looking forward to seeing him making an axe or a hammer with the stuff (hopefully, at least) and then show how durable and efficient they are.
Wow, I had no idea you could get usable amounts of iron from smelting bacteria.
When the civilized world finally manages to land a man on Mars, this guy will be there waiting for them. You'll see.
Wait this dude just smelted Iron. Holy fuck
When the civilized world finally manages to land a man on Mars, this guy will be there waiting for them. You'll see.
nah, he'll just show up a couple centuries later and make youtube videos of himself making rockets in the woods
I honestly wonder if it would be possible for him to make a steam powered system to automate the furnace. If he could figure that out, he'd be set for a very, very long time.
The neat thing about this video is how much more advanced the blower keeps getting. [editline]29th July 2016[/editline]
Wow, I had no idea you could get usable amounts of iron from smelting bacteria.
As someone pointed out to me in the last thread, this is how it was originally gathered before mining https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bog_iron
Where did the get the iron ore from exactly?
This guy's videos keep getting better and better. He literally says nothing and still, they're so insightful. He upgraded to the Iron Age!! Thread music :v:
Where did the get the iron ore from exactly?
Iron bacteria, they oxidize iron for fun and living. That is, until they get smelted into iron pellets.
This guy is fucking awesome. I really wish I lived somewhere that I could try this stuff.
when does he go to outer space
If he starts smelting ore I'm gonna lose my shit.

That brown goop he scooped out of the ground was bog iron, I think

I made a simple mud furnace for the blower. Then I collected orange iron bacteria from the creek (iron oxide), mixed it with charcoal powder (carbon to reduce oxide to metal) and wood ash (flux to lower the meting point) and formed it into a cylindrical brick. I filled the furnace with charcoal, put the ore brick in and commenced firing. The ore brick melted and produced slag with tiny, 1mm sized specs of iron through it. My intent was not so much to make iron but to show that the furnace can reach a fairly high temperature using this blower. A taller furnace called a bloomery was generally used in ancient times to produce usable quantities of iron and consumed more charcoal, ore and labour.
So he just skipped the bronze age? When can we see him wearing armor?
Next up is gonna be iron tipped arrows and a spear I bet
What was that goop he scooped up at 3:13?
Next up is gonna be iron tipped arrows and a spear I bet
I'm thinking he might make a compact chisel or something with the iron to make it easier to work with stone.
I was thinking he would make a metal hatchet considering how much wood he uses for things.
This is the slowest minecraft playthrough I've ever seen. I'd have at least like, 50 iron blocks by now.
how long until he makes siege weapons and overthrows a small country
I'm looking forward to seeing him making an axe or a hammer with the stuff (hopefully, at least) and then show how durable and efficient they are.
My guess is that his first metal tool will be something that stone isn't suited for, such as a blade, chisel, or a light axe head.
So I guess the first arc of the Prim Tech adaptation is over. Now we're onto the Iron Arc. I thought the first part was paced pretty well and stayed close(ish) to the source material, so hopefully they do justice to my favorite arc in the series
My guess is that his first metal tool will be something that stone isn't suited for, such as a blade, chisel, or a light axe head.
Is there stone in australia that's well suited for flint knapping? The axe he made didn't really seem to give as clean of breaks as when I've done it (that's not me bragging, just commenting on material, I could barely make an arrowhead). A blade would be fairly easy to make if you were experienced in the technique though.
