I disagree with his points.
He's really right, though. We need another thing like Painkiller to bring back the genre.

No, he's not. What separates Painkiller from Serious Sam, outside of aesthetic?
One problem with his opinion was that he expected it to be the genre reinventor, which is stupid considering the fact that SS3 is a throwback shooter.
I don't understand why he considers Painkiller to be way better than SS3, tho. It's pretty much got the same flaws as the SS games do, just displays them diffrently.
He uses Painkiller as an example too much, which while I'm sure is a good game, is probably not perfect enough to be used for every old school shooting example. Wasn't he complaining about innovation when there were new weapons and abilities new to Serious Sam 3 to begin with? He also complained about color, when he could have changed the color scheme, the game looks fantastic on vivid color settings. As for his thought on it being overly corridor shooting at some point, absurd.
He seemingly beat the game, so he should know there is only one level where are you in a constant corridor. But it's no different than being in the Tomb of Ramses, or inside some of the other temple complexes in First Encounter and Second Encounter, there are so few. And it doesn't stop the amount of enemies, because they can still rush you anyway. I wonder if he played on Serious Difficulty..
Oh well, I don't take his reviews very seriously (no pun intended), it seems like he is likely to contradict what he's saying these days, and I never considered the "professional" reviewer to be in more regard than many of the actual gamers.
Big Fucking Egun
Totally thought that too.
Serious Sam 4: Bum Fondling Enjoyment

He's taking this game way to serious.
I hear him say all the time that the old FPSs did it right but he's complaining that this one is too much like old ones.
Just goes to show once again that these aren't serious reviews and he just looks for things to complain about for entertainment value.
Are you guys saying anyone watched Zero Punctuation and took it seriously?
Because all I watch Yahtzee for is to have a good laugh, regardless of wether he bashes the game with dumb stuff or not.
I typically like his reviews quite a lot, but he seemed to not have a clear focus as to what he wanted with this one. Of course it being crazy and Doom-style will make it feel like The First Encounter, because that's what Serious Sam is all about. There's not really that much that they can improve upon or change without it becoming too different from the shooters of old.
I don't know, I find myself agreeing with a lot of his opinions on games, but his outlook on shooters seems to be a bit too unfocused and overly-ambiguous. And this is another one of his reviews where he just seems to be looking for something to complain about when there's really nothing there.
He explained what is wrong with the game pretty well. Painkiller had very interesting and awesome weapons, cool enemies and a damn good design, and that is how you make a old style run&gun game if you are going to do one.
I do agree the new things are just in the way.
After the first encounter with the wall climbing space monkeys I decided to not give a shit. They're annoying as fuck to shoot, slow the game down, and don't pose any threat. Just skipped right past whenever they appeared.
However the hitscan weapons aren't that bad, the scorpion things always had them anyway.
He's like a less satirical version of THE BEST GAMERS; overall, his videos are mainly just nitpicking for fun, but all in all some of the points he raises are valid, though not always as serious as he presents.

The Best Gamers clearly isn't satire, scrub.

The thing about SS3 is, it's just more of the same old thing. That's not necessarily bad, Serious Sam games are actually pretty darn good, but they could still make it a bit more different from the previous games instead of clinging so hard to the old formula and releasing something that looks like an expansion pack for SSHD. At least that's what I could gather from the gameplay videos I've watched. That's why I'm going to wait for its price to drop a bit before buying it.
