I mean, I really enjoyed the first game, one of my favorite games of the year in fact, but I ain't going to buy the second, despite, knowing for a fact I will enjoy it.
I just can't in good conscience support these business practices and buying "just the base game" is just that, support, whether you buy the DLC or not, it's an affirmative action towards the publisher, you either buy it and in essence support the practices, because, yes, you might not like it, but giving in and purchasing the game does indeed count as support.
Or you just don't buy the game, it's really that simple, honestly, it reminds me of an old saying, it's entirely apt here, you can't have your cake and eat it too.
The cheapest option available to a prospective buyer is not the base game. It's a used version of the eventual "We're done milking you now here's everything on the disk" edition in a secondhand store roughly a year down the line.
And wouldn't you know it, that is also the option where the least amount of positive feedback in the form of money is given to companies which utilize these practices.
Thing is, from what's going on, apparently people blew the loot crates way the fuck up to the point of insanity. From some accounts they don't even help with later parts [sp]as you're supposed to do most of the defense anyway. Gold Uruk crates or no the entire defense rests entirely on your diligence.[/sp] I mean I get it, microtransactions are awful and halt gameplay flow while also adding more than what you payed for initially, but I'd say that for a mobile game not this game.
Look I'll be straight and to the point; I'm going to buy it, but only that and nothing else as the guy in the video mentioned. I loved Shadow of Morder. I sunk in god knows how many hours into that game not including the Beast DLC and The Bright Lord. I had dreamed of a sequel that went in the direction that this one's going in now, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna miss it because of one shitty practice gimmick that I refuse to use. Loved the first one, the sequel DOES have the potential as the gameplay touted, and I'm not gonna miss it.
I'll just wait for the inevitable game of the year edition that includes all the silver/gold edition crap + DLC for half the price.
Honestly all the discussion about this game just makes me want to replay the first one.
idk buying the game isn't really doing anything, even if you don't buy into the dlc or whatever. You're still giving them 60$, and thats only half of what people spend if they buy the complete edition. For a single player game like this would it not be better to wait until it's on sale anyways, simply because it's single player?

Except now companies are putting all the extra goodies on voucher codes so you can't get that second hand anymore. It's what Beth is doing with Fallout 4
I'll repost the comment I left on this video.
But you're literally rewarding the developer? You do know that cutting out sections as DLC takes very little money to do compared to making the whole game. As long as you give them a sale they're happy and will continue doing greedy things.•
I don't see the point of not purchasing lootboxes to "show a message" because it's such a minor thing to include they wouldn't lose any money if 0% of the playerbase bought them.
I'll probably buy Shadow of War... a few years down the line on a Steam sale for cheap
I already bought it for £16 off and I don't even give a shit really, by not supporting this shit in games I'm stopping myself from having fun basically, like it takes more effort to not buy these games and not have a game that I'll have fun playing, than it does to just buy the game and have fun.
i buy games when they look fun
i bought this game because it looked fun
guess what - its fun
guess im a terrible person now!!!!!
People should buy the game if it looks fun and be left alone for doing so. But on the same note they shouldn't act like there aren't good reasons other people aren't buying it even though it looks fun.
The necessity of the loot boxes to the minute-to-minute gameplay, in my experience, has been absolutely zero and I have put 24 hours into the game so far. It only mentioned them once to me and it was after the game awarded me with gold and was showing me where I could spend it, if I chose to do so. Otherwise I've been swimming in legendary Uruk and great gear constantly. Yeah it sucks that the loot box system is in there but the fact the game feels completely unharmed by the inclusion of them makes me feel as though they were actually done okay in this instance.
I'm sure the Bandwagon Brigade are gonna bomb me pretty hard here, however the game is completely fine despite the inclusion of the loot boxes.
i bought it but my hard drive didn't have enough space to install it so i just refunded it :v:
The game's pretty great. Yeah, it sucks that there are microtransactions, but they're literally useless, and you've really got to try and look for them to buy 'em.
For all intents and purposes, though, if you don't want to buy it because of the micro's, that's totally fine. I don't mind that mentality in the slightest. I just don't appreciate people saying the game is automatically garbage because of them.
^ i don't think anyone is really saying that, they're saying that supporting the game regardless is still going to contribute to further emboldening microtransactions. even if the game is good the best way to protest it is just not buying it altogether. They don't really care whether or not you personally use microtransactions, because there are plenty of others that will, AND they already got your $60
