In my opinion one of the best freestyles I've ever heard. Donald Glover is a talented wizard person.
Sounds legit too. Most "freestyles" you hear are all just written but this really seems genuine.
his other one over pound cake is dope too

btw paul rosenberg (the radio host in that video) is the same dude from the "paul skits" in eminem albums. he was eminem's manager for a fair while and is an amazingly cool dude.
Donald Glover is my chocolate dreamboy
Apart from his skill. Why are rappers nowaday so... Sleepy. No power. No soul?

Because The Internet was pretty good but I stand firmly by my opinion that Camp is a fucking wack ass album

It's just a style that's popular, he has songs that go hard but his general style is more laidback. Every rapper has chill songs and songs where they go hard
Apart from his skill. Why are rappers nowaday so... Sleepy. No power. No soul?
depends on the song and the rapper tbh
like we've got a generation of middleclass 21st century rappers without so much to get riled up about. in the 80s and 90s it was all gang-affiliated stuff so no wonder they were so powerful and angry. but these days you got people like milo who, in their own right, are incredible rappers, but a dude who did classics at university isn't going to be as powerful and soulful as a dude who's seen half of his friends shot or put behind bars. but that's their own thing and it's as cool and as legitimate as anything else
but hey rappers nowadays? kanye's power and soul is insane. whether you think he's a shit writer or what who cares but gee that guy sure gets angry about stuff eg. new slaves
That was fucking rad wow
"Niggas sit down, he can't stand me"
"Then we fell out of it
Cause I'm never really there and she tired of it
Real nigga shit
Real love
Real pain
Real intimate"
"Niggas need to learn code, man I'm sick with the Python.
Motherfucker I'm ill
Born just to die that's the human curse"
I love how he's able to say what's on his mind just as deliberately as with normal speech, while simultaneously absolutely killing it
He is also a great comedian too, even though he hasn't done stand up in a while.

Problem with some freestyles is you can tell they were a little prewritten, not all of it, but bits and pieces, like the Gratata line, no way he came up with that on the spot. Great freestyle though, I would say this one is slightly more impressive however.

Some of my favorite shit by him is in the song Zealots of Stockholm, great shit. I would post a video but there's no decent version on mobile youtube that's not some shitty bass-boosted remix.
Man I love dong lover

I'm assuming the pre-written feeling lines are ones they've thought of earlier but kept in mind in case they ever find somewhere it'll fit and free style's a good place to just vent those.

That's what freestyles are in almost every case and everyone knows that. It's about how they construct it all and tweak it for the situation

no rapper uses a sheet of paper or rehearses a freestyle, that's retarded
it's totally valid to use thoughts you had earlier or just ones you have in general in a freestyle, most of the things totally fresh in a freestyle is the rather meaningless filler lines

In the beginning with his 3005 line (in the OPs vid) I could clearly hear the flow he was starting to go towards as if he was rapping 3005 again.
This is one of my favs

I saw him in Atlanta a few months ago and fucking loved it. His shows are amazing and he actually gives me motivation to show some ATL pride.
Never been a fan of CyHi, but he kills this freestyle.

I saw him about four or so years ago, and it was possibly the worst crowd I've ever been in. They didn't do a damn thing the entire set, they were all just filming it on their phones and shit. Never jumped, never moved, nothin'.
Danny Brown opened for him that set, and I actually got a chance to speak to him a few months back. I was like "yeah, here's hoping your next show in AZ has a better crowd than when you opened for Gambino." And he was like "Oh, you were there? Yeah, that shit was horrible, wasn't it?"

It was wild at his Because of the Internet tour/shows. Everyone was tokin, jumping wildly, and rushing to the stage trying to get as close as possible. Some of the best fun I've had.
DonG lover is my favorite dude ever.
He speaks mad truth, raps well, is on Community, and is SPIDERMAN

A lot of rappers get their starts rehearsing "freestyles", pretty much all freestyle battles today are mostly prewritten, but the freestyling comes when you retort to an earlier diss that your opponent just said.
And when I say prewritten, I mean like, the Gratata line, and then "I'm so fly like XYZ". Like you said, the ones that are on the spot are the weaker ones, e.g. "Threat to the throne, man I'ma murder this, You are such a poser, you ain't ever heard of this"
When it comes to raw skill
