As much as I hate the pretentious "hello I'm a student graphic designer who uses active typography/design with over the top cheesy distracting sound effects everywhere" style of this video, its still an interesting point.
It really does have an interesting point.
I think I'll use part of what he said and limit myself to how much I can edit a post or chat snippet I make, it could make things more interesting and honest
I'm not so sure about the editing part. Coming back and changing what you say before you commit it by posting it just means that you put down what you actually think, rather than what tumbles out of your head. Having a 'real-time' conversation doesn't mean that what comes out of your mouth is what's in your head, in fact that's often the opposite. Having a mechanism for remotely sharing your feelings and thoughts allows you to say what you actually think, and get the point across.
How many times have you explained yourself badly in a conversation, only to have someone entirely misunderstand what you said and even take offence? I've accidentally insulted people before and had them think of me as a different person to who I really am.
I can honestly say I am not lonely. I hardly use any social media site except to post send friends the videos I watch here. It is really easy to not be lonely, just get a friend and hang out with him. I go to the gym every night with a friend I have had since high school. At college I have another group of friends that I hang out with all the time.
As for the whole editing the conversation part. Well people sometimes think I am odd because I will take really long pauses while talking to think about what I will say next.
That being said people are way too damn reliant on Facebook. I tried to delete mine last year and my brother made a fake profile of me and refused to stop using it until I re-activated mine.
