Pulling a Lord of Boxes here I know, but this was just too irresistible not to post.
This game was apparently also meant as a hint for a new Prime installment (presumably the rumored Metroid title for the NX) according to one user and ultimately this interview.

damnit should've paid attention to the title (forgot to add "Prime" in there) mods help
Samus Aran, scourge of the space pirates, having taken out their general, Ridley, multiple times by herself. Along with having killed mother brain, twice, by herself. Defeated the Metroid Prime, Emperor Ing, and Dark Samus (who was said to be the strongest threat to the galaxy they'd ever seen), again all by herself. Gets captured by a handful of space pirates and turned into a giant ball for some rookie ass federation troops to take out as a group of 4. Yea okay, fuck you too Nintendo.
So... what's the context all of this?

I would say shitty writing but i dont think any writers worked on this.

just going straight into the whole enraged superfan shtick right off the bat. this thread's gonna be fun.
also super metroid has not happened at this point so she hasn't yet returned to zebes to fight mother brain again.

Not even a fan of the Metroid series yet I find this to be still utterly ridiculous even with context and can see why fans would be peeved.

i'm not even making a statement on the game's quality, i'm just confused how metroid fans so consistently have the energy to get angry about a game that will ultimately have no consequences on how the future of the series plays out. it's not like samus is some invincible impossible to capture entity either, she nearly died in zero mission getting shot down by space pirates.
like, yeah, it's sort of a slap in the face when we all really want a new GOOD main series metroid but would ninty really make the effort to produce a spinoff game in the first place if they didn't have future plans?
Why can't nintendo just make like another Metroid Prime Hunters? That shit was fucking sick in 2006, imagine if they made one now
Honestly I always kinda' liked federation related stuff in metroid, so I feel like I would've jumped on the basic concept of this game if they hadn't gone for the ridiculous cartoonish artstyle they chose and everything weren't so damn slow.
Can you really blame Metroid fans for being really sour about this after the disaster Other M was, because I sure can't
When was the last good Metroid game? 2007?

She also damn near died to Parasite X.

Because it's been 6 years since we've had a mainstream Metroid game, and 9 years since we've had a GOOD mainstream Metroid game. I haven't heard anything official about any actual Metroid game, be it 2d or 3d, and after Other M, I'm worried about what they might try and pull for a new Metroid game at any rate.
They should just let Retro Studios do another Prime like game; 3d, first person, emphasis on exploration and discovery, with the story being optional via scans.
Hell, I'd even settle for a 3ds remake of any of the older Prime games at this point. Not a 4 player coop shooter, on a handheld of all things, throwing the Metroid name on there for the sake of improving sales.

Even if this does take place in the story before Super Metroid, the Prime trilogy took place before it too. In all those games, and in the original, she was chewing through Space Pirates like they were nothing.
Hell, in both the original and Super Metroid, Space Pirates were hardly a threat. A few shots or some missiles made very quick work of them. They were more of a nuisance than anything. In Prime they put up a bit more of a fight, but there were several occasions where'd you fight you way through rooms full of the fuckers, and it was generally pretty easy to make quick work of them. I just find it hard to believe that Samus Aran, the bounty hunter feared so badly by the Space Pirates that they put a huge bounty on her and tried to duplicate all of her equipment to dispose of her, would so easily capture her and NOT immediately kill her and start researching her gear after disposing of her body.
That video was literally the worst thing I have ever seen.
That would never happen to Samus.
Even if it did, she would escape from it herself (kinda like doom guy in the new Doom game, that's how it started right?)
That was extremely lame.

Doom guy in Doom 4 was[sp]captured by the demons and sealed away into a tomb until the UAC found the tomb and studied him. He may have stayed sealed forever if the UAC had never found him.[/sp]
I guess I hold the unpopular opinion here and think this boss fight that bad. Even as a big Metroid fan, I guess I just never held Samus to the standard of being a big unstoppable badass.
What gets me is that it isn't just going against Samus' character and the Space Pirates, but they're literally just.. enlarging and turning her into a giant Blast Ball of doom. It's just, that's really the best thing they could think of? Imagine a brainwashed Samus giving you a hell of a fight head-on in an intense battle not dissimilar to Dark Samus in the Prime games, or, if they really had to make her giant-sized, strap some mimicry gear that the Space Pirates used in an attempt to replicate her tech as her own power suit for a larger version of the players.
Instead she's just a fucking Blast Ball rollypoley trying to run you over. Samus Aran, galactic bounty hunter, captured by Space Pirates and forced to curl into a giant ball so that some Federation dudes shoot her on her 30th anniversary.

Oh ok thank you for the clarification.
I would not say Samus is invincible, it's more that, if anything were to defeat her, it would not be either space pirates or some federation dudes.

I mean, Space Pirates are kinda obsessed with her morph ball ability. I remember the original Prime had logs of morph ball experiments that resulted in space pirates being crushed/mangled.
I don't quite have a problem with Samus being captured or even being the final boss, I just think the way it's executed is really fucking stupid looking.
lmao they hate Samus so much they just want us to kill her it's like the ghostbusters killing their own logo.
lmao they hate Samus so much they just want us to kill her it's like the ghostbusters killing their own logo.
you don't kill her thankfully, you just free her from the mind control / amplification shit, and then backs you up a short while later and even saves your characters when they're blown out a hole into space in the middle of the escape sequence
and both times they show her they play the exact same fanfare within a couple minutes of eachother at most

Because if the game does well, Nintendo will think that people want more of this garbage in the future.
If it does poorly, then we get the WELL I GUESS YOU PEOPLE DON'T WANT METROID AFTER ALL routine. Nobody wins.
Watch as Nintendo takes the hate for Federation Force and Other M as people not wanting Metroid games.
:suicide:

If we're lucky they'll see the reaction to the fan made Metroid 2 remake and realize we want actually good Metroid games again.
But this is Nintendo so probably not.
I fucking love this thread because it's obvious that very few people here have actually put their hands on the game. It plays -really- well and it certainly feels like a (more action oriented) prime game. If you get off of your high horses for a few seconds and pull off those nostaliga goggles, you can actually see the makings of a good game here.
but of course, it's gonna get buried under waves of 'BUT OTHER M WAS BAD'. RIP Fed Force, you almost had a chance

Maybe Nintendo will make the future Metroid games like Federation Force, similiar how they changed Paper Mario games by taking out all the things that made the series good. :downs:

I would have enjoyed this game a lot more if it was cheaper
This entire game is a neat idea executed poorly and released far to early during a drought of NOTHING for the Metroid I.P, The idea of being a Federation Marine, awesome, Federation Marines are pretty badass! the idea of fighting Samus Aran under the control of something else at the end as said Marines, awesome!
But fucking hell, they basically did everything wrong here.
[editline]edit[/editline]
You know what this game should have taken some ideas from? Halo: ODST, with these badass motherfuckers instead of the Chibi marines you see before you.

Would have made for a great game.
The one thing this game want to do is replay all my Metroid games, especially Hunters
