This is not meant to be an overly informative thread. I just love watching the process of metal working. What kind of videos does Facepunch know of?

Metalworking is awesome. I want to build a forge and just stay out there all day making crappy knives.

I mean, more than good enough for a movie, but in terms of an actual blade it's probably pretty lousy.

Albion makes their swords the same way and the quality of those swords speak for themselves, a lot of people say they're TOO good. Tempering still has to be done the old fashioned way though. Having a mill to cut a fuller produces the same result a guillotine or a scraper does in a fraction of the time. If you're tight on materials then you can forge the blade into shape before grinding it smooth and this is the traditional way to do it, steel was a very expensive material in the middle ages and you wanted to waste as little steel as possible.

As a gasline welder I'm quite intrigued about blacksmithing. Shame that it's too costly of a hobby.
