Today, July 29th 2012, Fight for Space has reached it's minimum funding level of $65,000. This achievement comes on the same day that President Dwight D. Eisenhower first singed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, so we are proud to be in good company.
Now, we must push for greater frontiers. With your help, if we can continue to push this level of funding until our end date of August 19th, we can bring this documentary to new heights.

If we can reach $100,000: We can work towards bringing this film to the masses in a theatrical release and more broadcast networks. A higher funding level also means that we will be shoot this film on better cameras, bring in additional and talented artists, designers, cinematographers, photographers, and researchers.
Please help boost our funding level to $100,000 or more. With every extra dollar pledged our film becomes that much better. Here are some of the things we will be able to work towards if we exceed our goal.
Theatrical Release
Additional Distribution Methods
Higher Resolution Cameras
More Locations
More Interviews
Improved Design Art for the Rewards
Greater Level of Research
Larger Crew, Improved Cinematography
Larger Orchestra for our Musical Score
Please keep sharing, tweeting, and writing! With your help we can make this project even better than we planned! Fight for Space.
Thank you all,

That means a better documentary with way more publicity for just $35,000 more! Keep sharing!
You guys should really donate, at least the $10. Its for a VERY good cause.
I really hate how we kind of gave up on space exploration but I would love to see some sort of colonization on the moon or Astronauts landing on Mars in my life time. I kinda want to some thing that you can tell you grand children you know, other than being around when the first black president was elected.
It's a damn shame that some of the most ambitious projects and ideas of this era are being squelched out by mindless horse shit brought in by modern politics. I hope that our space program can bounce back as it is a vital asset to our benefaction in the future.
I can see why people don't really care about space exploration any more, honestly. We have so many problems going on down here on earth that everyone has to worry about, so what would it change for the common man anywhere if we did get an extremely small colony on the moon? It wouldn't change the economy by much for them, it wouldn't pull them or their sons and daughters out of wars, it won't clean up the environment... They don't want to sink the money into it, especially when there is already so little to go around. This isn't my opinion mind you, but that's the way I would think most people are thinking right now, and they're not exactly wrong in some ways.
Has this been posted on Reddit? This seems like the perfect thing for them to get behind and launch off the ground and I've seen nothing of it until now

You have to understand that every dollar spent in this industry is an investment for the future. All the money put into it will come back with some interest.

I understand it plenty, I've read up on what all of the space exploration technology we studied during the space race did for us, but most people won't care. They see the tons upon tons of problems we have down here, it's not hard to see why they couldn't care less about putting some colony on the moon, there's not much of a gain for them in their eyes. It would take a lot for people to want to put money towards that instead of fixing our current problems.
I kinda have to agree with evilweazel. With all the issues the U.S. and the world is currently facing, space exploration really seems like a unnecessary investment.
Not to say this it isn't important, but while issues like global accessibility to medicine, food, or even water still remain, I think exploring space is the least of our worries, and resources better spent elsewhere. This is all of course without even mentioning the current state of the global economy and military tension between countless nations.
Space can wait, it isn't going anywhere.
As a European I wish the esa would do anything else than send stuff to the the sun.

The problem is that the money you put into space exploration will only actually show solid returns in decades time. We've done the basics of space. We've got satellites, and we've proved it is possible for us to leave the Earth. Most of the short-term benefits from the space programs have already been discovered, and now, anything more will only materialize in the distant future. Too far ahead for any politician or, more importantly, any average voter to care.
I would love to see space exploration become a thing of the present. I want to witness the Apollo program of my lifetime. I wish you could take the near $700 billion that goes into the United States Department of Defense and put it into NASA. The problem is that the public doesn't see any reason why we should. It's sad, but I'll keep on hoping that public opinion will change. I'm going to continue campaigning for more space initiatives. It's why I'm donating to this film.

Honestly, as bad as the world may seem it can be much worse. I'm talking world war 3, global climatic and environmental disasters, plagues/pandemics, and even asteroids. There will always be problems on Earth and who knows, maybe space exploration could lead to solutions. We don't spend that much at all on Space to begin with so just doubling would have almost no affect on other government institutions while tremendously affecting our Space program.
Donating $50. Fucking love space.
Space is the future
I remember when I was ten and my friend and I would discuss where we would be in then next 15+ years, and how we would already be doing manned missions to Mars by now. Sadly, it looks like that day isn't going to come any time soon.

Just because things could be much worse doesn't mean the world we're confined to right now is anywhere near where we should be before we even start thinking about colonization of anywhere.
I've donated $11 that survived the Steam summer sale
Pretty cool you get "Thank You" credit in the film and on www.fightforspace.com
Sadly, the space program was largely done for political reasons, which are now absent with the collapse of the USSR.
Donated $10. I really want to see this happen.

Space may not be, but we are...
I agree with your issues, however we've got the controls in our hands. There are plenty of people around to deal with these problems, how about you? Have you gone out of your way to to solve one of those problems you mentioned? No? Then what is a little extra funding going to hurt?
My point is, even if a space program had a tiny fraction of the funding the US military gets, we wouldn't even be discussing this now
It's such an insignificant sum of money for the world as a whole, it's easy to spare the effort to help the space program.
We've got engineers, mathematicians and scientists, and there will always be a (sadly dwindling) supply of them. You can be pretty damn sure they aren't going to solve the economic crisis, so instead of putting them to make the latest iFad, you'd think they could be doing something worthwhile for the entire world
Sadly, the people in power lack our kind of thinking. They're programmed to fix economies, and even while they do a bad job at it, space isn't in their interest. Space can wait, but how much longer can we?
I think I forgot my own point :v:
pledgin 10 smackeroos
Even though I'm supposed to be saving my money for a trip to Germany, and already have spent a bit too much from Steam sales, I pledged 50 dollars for this. If i wasn't saving for a trip I would pledge so much more.
Space is where humanity needs to be. NASA and other Space researching organizations need funding so we can take advantage of the large expansive universe out there. If we stay on this rock, we're doomed to failure and extinction. If we were to colonize planets though ,and get out of our solar system, we'd be almost eternal unless a massive force wiped us out.
I know if i was ever a rich man I would certainly invest in space related projects for this reason.
It'll be great to have all the bonus features and interviews for this.
Pledging $25 to get the DVD. This needs far more attention than it's getting.
edit: My brother just donated $10, I'm still donating the $25 because I want a physical copy!

100 times this. I love space programs and I wish the USA was still striving for space dominance, but it has already been achieved. No one else is challenging the US in terms of a space race and therefore the politicians don't see the point of advancing our NASA program further.

China's in it for the long haul, we can't let them beat us like this.
Space will be completely commercialized soon enough.
Oh man, the Doctor from Star Trek Voyager, this is sad that we have given up on the last frontier that we know of... Our planet sucks
I donated $10.
It actually makes me feel so happy knowing so many of my fellow Facepunchers are donating their hard-earned and (most likely) precious money for this. You're all wonderful, amazing human beings.
