I mean it looks...okay? I still can't get over Frank's VA but the more cutscenes I saw the more I got interested I got in the story and forgot about the VA woes. The VA is very inconsistent, sounding bad in the beginning but I genuinely liked him sometimes with his banter with Vick and in the school talking with Brad. There were some really genuinely (imo) funny moments scattered in too.
Main issue is him grunting every damn swing. But so far I'm still pretty...mixed
Definitely going to hold off until after reviews. Even then I might not get it until an ultimate edition or if it goes on sale.
Wow. It looks like they took some random game and called it Dead Rising.
Vick is fucking dumb.
Man, it's weird how this game went from survival horror to something like a dynasty warriors title combat wise.
I feel like they got it all wrong focusing on the zombie killing like that was the main draw of the game, too much goofy shit for me personally.
Not sure that showing a linear tutorial level is going to get them much interest, especially with a dumb teenager sidekick and a Frank West with some weird voice acting. The skill tree is also something I'm not a huge fan of seeing in a game like Dead Rising.
It could probably end up pretty neat if they keep the vibe from older Dead Rising games and not go too far over the line on either goof or grittyness but so far it doesn't seem like they will.
This is awful
Not gonna lie but I really found the chunkiness in DR1 and 2 had really added to how the game felt unique, I don't hate that feel but really enjoyed it after some time getting use to it and plus that chunkiness kinda makes the game feel more intense.
But this err, looks very generic. I don't know how to put it in words but it's defiantly not the same anymore.
Why is Frank acting like a huge Douchebag? What the fuck did Capcom do. This isn't even Mature, this is immature. [sp]Frank not caring about the damn subjects?[/sp] Frank may come off as someone who doesn't care, but at the end of the day, he really fucking cares. He didn't go through all the effort of Willamette, saving everyone he could, being shocked at everything, same with Case West, as a douche bag. Cause it seems like if he was back then, he wouldn't have fucking bothered.
Jesus, I thought DR4 Frank would be at least similar in personality, but no, he isn't.
This Frank makes me hate Frank West.
It's funny how [sp]Dream Frank[/sp] looks more like Frank than DR4 Frank.
I honestly don't think T.J would have been able to save Frank West.
Christ this looks bad.
the voice acting is actually just really bad? whats the deal with that?
Looks boring as fuck.
the fact that they think that guy sounds older than "Real Frank" is so hilariously idiotic it's actually menacingly painful
like how the what can you even be this deaf hahaha PISS OFF
[editline]8th November 2016[/editline]
like Frank is now literally Generic Grumpy Ex-Mil Guy #15457508
Stealth? A health bar? A fucking INVENTORY?
Well I'm not even going to fucking bother with this, jesus christ. I agree, TJ would not have made this any better.
Still gonna stick with the theory that this is an in universe movie based on Frank. Could explain the shit in personality and appearance. Hollywood decided to make his character into a generic action star.
Or maybe I'm just in denial?
they turned one of my genuinely favorite video game characters of all time into such a mindbogglingly generic parody
Frank West now seems like the protagonist of a 10$ bargain bin video game instead of the lovable complete sack of shit he was in Dead Rising 1 and Off the record
super dissapointing

it's saint's row 5

that means they consciously made their game bad on purpose
nobody is going to do that. its all real
Jesus tap dancing Christ, the voice acting sounds so low effort, the grunts sound completely fake and that screaming he did when [sp]dream frank[/sp] got him sounded so fuckin bad.
Tj Rotolo may have been a bit goofy but he really put effort into the grunts and yells and acting. His grunts were really satisfying to listen to, if that makes sense.

tj has perfect grunts
I think what bothers me most is how much they're misinterpreting why we liked Frank
Frank is literally nothing about what a hero is traditionally
he's out of shape, monstrously ugly, selfish, brutish, arrogant, and kind of a fucking moron. He locks himself in an incredibly dangerous situation because he wants to make fat stacks, and throughout the entire adventure he's kind of a huge dick, insisting he knows more than government agents and is a pretty big snarker to survivors
But despite all that he comes across as so genuinely real. Frank is the straight man to all of the batshit insanity happening around him, happily shuttering away while zombies and psychopaths try to do him in as he drowns his problems in orange juice
Even chuck greene, as lovable as he was wasn't nearly as good as Frank, Chuck is much more a western hero, loves his daughter, classically handsome and spews out one liners
his personification in Off the Record was perfect. What would Frank do after Dead Rising 1? most likely abuse cocaine and drink himself to death, and I like that they make him even grosser and kinda shittier there. He's wise cracking and meme-y a bit, but he's still the same sort of straight man jerk to it all who just wants to survive and get paid
I dunno, I think I'm not articulating properly but I really liked Frank becuase he was so unique. A shlubby out of shape dude having to survive for 3 days is infinitely more compelling than a Nathan Drake knockoff
why does frank suddenly look like your average grizzled action movie leading man, sound like a pack a day smoker and have a random spunky teenage asian girl sidekick?
why is there a stealth system that involves sneaking up on soldiers to take selfies with them before choke-holding them?
why is the us government going full umbrella and making zombie shit keep happening after it's fucked things up three times now?
why is the humour even more forced and out of place than it was in dead rising 3 which was already pushing it?
what the fuck is even going on with this series?

This is what happens if you take a japanese series and give it to american developers, they fail to understand what the original was about.

2 and OTR were good, captured a lot of the same feel and were developed by the Canadians, it's just from 3 onwards where they started really shitting the bed.

uhh what
I mean sure, Frank definitely likes money and fame but he's also super passionate about getting to the truth. He's got journalistic integrity, and he's still going about helping all the survivors he possibly can. He's a good guy deep down. And he's not ugly.

They had some of the members from the original team for Dead Rising 2, Case West, Zero and OTR.
They were by themselves with DR3.

Idk dude capcom vancouver did a fantastic job with 2 and 3 imo
Looks utterly unlike anything a dead rising game should be

Canadian. Capcom Vancouver fucked this up royally.
Idk dude capcom vancouver did a fantastic job with 2 and 3 imo
3 had a lot of problems.
Tonally it's all over the place, like it's trying to be a super serious game but then lmao japanese schoolgirl outfit and a gun that shoots dildos with a splooshing noise aren't I wacky.
The size of the map makes gameplay worse, you're spending most of the game driving back and forth in vehicles that are either boring from the start, or interesting for a bit but you spend so fucking long driving around in them that they become boring.
Despite going all out on combo weapons, it feels like there's much less variety thanks to about a quarter of them being variations of other combo weapons. Nothing like that feeling of finding a new combo blueprint but instead of being a new, interesting weapon it's a weapon you already have but this time it adds ice instead of fire.
It feels like they put less effort into the survivors, in 1 and 2 you had this huge variety of different people who all mattered and gave you a tangible measure of progress with how they filled up the safe house, in 3 you've got just a bunch of fighting people who are basically all the same except with different stats and don't exist except when you're making them follow you around, a bunch of generic recycled models and voices who pop up every so often asking you to kill all the zombies near them then fucking off, and a handful of insubstantial and highly forgettable people who show up for one sidequest then fuck off forever (About the only exception I can think of is the sweet old lady who's outlived the entire rest of her family and has cancer, so she just wants you to take her on one last tour of the city before sitting in her home and waiting to die. Probably the only good, memorable sidequest in the game.).
The bossfights are a hell of a lot easier and more boring, pretty much all of them bar the Doctor can be beaten by using your practically infinite supply of super powerful guns to shoot them until they die. Even the final boss lets you keep your weapons this time, making the fight completely trivial.
The pacing is awful, instead of things always happening like in 1 and 2, the whole game is cut up into little sections where you get a few sidequests and one story quest and nothing else will happen until you finish that story quest, it's ok, the entire city is on hold waiting for you to go do whatever, take your time.
