she goes on about people fat shaming HER and other overweight people but "radical fat activists" like her will go out of their way to weight shame skinnier people but she won't mention that because being happy with your weight is obviously a good enough reason to be a cunt to anyone that's not overweight like her :)
5 minutes in and it still feels like she hasn't actually talked about anything.
she also sounds like she has a breathing problem, that or she's on the verge of crying throughout the whole thing
To be honest I don't care about people's weight, but you should always take into consideration the health risks that come with being outside the average for your own sake. From what I see "fat activists" don't really seem to mention it much.
Having several relatives that have died due to obesity related problems this pisses me the fuck off.
Fat acceptance= diabetes acceptance, heart diesease acceptance, high blood pressure acceptance
Obviously there are people with mental problems that need help but telling people "It's okay to be obese :)" is fucking stupid.
She acts like fat acceptance is progressive. Fuck off.

She kept mentioning that doctors have done research on the subject but didn't mention what came of it, probably because it disproves her whole point.
Watched for the whole 12 minutes and it doesn't feel like she has made any points other than "most people disapprove of fat people", "love your body", and "myself and my fat friends did some cool things that won awards so that means being fat is okay". How did she even get onto the stage?

She reminds me of Carol from Tim and Eric.

"You may have wondered, consciously or not, if I have diabates, or a partner, or if I eat carbs after 7pm."..."And this way of thinking is known as fatphobia."
Phobia by defenetion means "irrational fear of something". Besides the fact that that she totally missused the word, none of the said observations regarding her posture are nowhere near unjistified.
Is it really so weird for someone to consider that a person this big may have a form of diesease and maybe eats too much?

What? No. Apples and oranges
Drinkwater? More like Eatburger

How is phobia fear when used in context of fat but hate when used in context of homosexuality?

In clinical terms, -phobia doesn't generally mean literal fear though. More like aversion, repulsion. But yeah, it's the "irrational" part that constitutes phobia, and I have sneaking suspicion that most people who are repulsed by the concept of being fat as fuck have a reason or two for it that are completely rational.
Imagine looking like that, having problems breathing and moving and try to convince everyone that you're completely fine, no problems what so ever. It's just a body type, like every other, see.
How is phobia fear when used in context of fat but hate when used in context of homosexuality?
Well, for starters, he wasn't say "phobia is fear in context of fat." He was saying that was a blatant misuse of the term phobia.
And to address your question more directly, fear instigates hate. As a species, we hate things we fear, eg people say "I hate spiders!" because spiders freak them out and they're afraid of them.
Homophobia is a fear of homosexuality, and that fear begets hatred. Most peoples' homophobia comes from them being uncomfortable with the thought of someone of the same sex showing interest in them, and/or the fear of what their peers will think if they themselves are aroused by same-sex couples.
fat is fine overweight is not.
its not your fatness we dislike, its your ability to reject reality
your fat problems are costing taxpayers a lot of money, so no, im not just going to 'accept it.' if you're just fat, thats okay, but overweight to the point when you have real health problems is not okay, and theres a reason why it's not socially accepted.

Hah. More like eattwoburger
I came into this thread thinking "oh maybe it's just a video telling people that having a little fat isn't something you should worry about"
I didn't expect an overweight as fuck person pretty much saying "my level of fat is fine, accept it" for about 10 minutes. Man that makes me feel healthy.
I'm totally cool with people loving their bodies and being happy, but in the case of obesity that's despite being fat. There's no honor or inherently redeemable qualities in being overweight. Being not obese isn't a standard society set, it's what humans look like normally, when they get a normal amount of food and a normal amount of activity and aren't handicapped by disease or bad habits. She talks about all these dancers and marathon-runners who have the stamina to do things that, when regular-bodied people do them, are generally not as remarkable. It's cool that they're putting the extra effort in. It's not cool that they're putting an extra load on already-stressed public health systems, where applicable. It's not cool that they feel that validates health issues. It's not cool that they're encroaching on people who suffer actual, inescapable discrimination by co-opting their terms and turning "morbidly obese" into "people of size" (REALLY? THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE GOING WITH?!)
It goes beyond diet and fitness culture, because the constant summer-season ads advertising chiseled six-pack abs and bodies that fill a one-piece swimsuit gracefully aren't targeted at morbidly obese people, and in fact do a lot more to those who are regarded by their peers as reasonably capable of achieving that body (say, guys with a little extra on the belly and flabby arms, or women with small tits). She's standing there being proud of her fat while sweating to a sheen and struggling to breathe, come on.
If you loved your body as much as you say lady, you wouldn't be obese. That's a contradiction, considering that being overweight is objectively and undeniably bad for your health.
[editline]22nd November 2016[/editline]
And many, many people have valid concerns about overweight people because it's not a healthy lifestyle one should encourage, nor "accept".
[editline]22nd November 2016[/editline]
She's not 2 minutes in, and she sounds out of breath, for fuck's sake. You expect us to believe that it's nothing to worry about?
You can have type 2 diabetes if you want.
Being a person trying to lose weight, this shit is infuriating.
My aunt is much thinner than her and she still has problems from being fat.
Being that fat cannot be good at all.
"fatphobia" equates with "capitalism, patriarchy, and racism"??
[editline]23nd November 2016[/editline]
miring those calves though
In all honesty the people who've become so fat that it impairs their daily life and then do absolutely nothing for themselves other than banally complain about whatever they're objected to by society (eg: Attractiveness, Interviews) has nothing but my contempt for them.
When you get to such a weight where it starts to cut into yourself it not only does it for the person but also for familial and society at large; When you get fat you're going into healthcare more often and you're also going to need more support to get through your daily life. Imagine every day having to wake up to a spouse whose gained a hundred lbs or more since the relationship started and having to help them do something every day that they can no longer do. The entirety of this is troublesome when an increasing number of adults, teens and children continue to become overweight or obese.
And this disbelief that medical disabilities and problems don't spring up because of you being morbidly obese is also disgusting, the mindset that some find themselves in are some of the most hypocritical and fucking insane i've come across: Blaming everyone else for your own failings and going further in your own destruction.
I know I may come off as edgy, but I genuinely wish that these people actually get off their ass and actually work out or do something that helps them and indirectly society; It's only getting more and more problematic as the % of obese and overweight people continue to rise throughout the world and it's showing not only in nations but also in the world.

White supremacist capitalist patriarchy, yeah sounds great, sprinkle some fatphobia, ageism and speciesism on top, pull a couple more out of your ass and the masterpiece is complete.
