Germany circa WWII is the coolest thing.

"This war's bullshit, I wanna go home, this weather sucks, and I saw someone get shot yesterday. At least I got this chocolate."
coolest looking armed forces of all time, hands down

Thats probably the best quality WWII era footage ive ever seen
I have some other WWII videos bookmarked on YouTube, I'll look through them and post them.

Death in a Tank

This channel has a lot of great footage: http://www.youtube.com/user/UnknownWW2InColor
The German military looks so much more professional than the Ally's
The Allies seem so much more human though
(in the footage I've seen)
Germany's military WAS much more proffesional than any other side.

Various guncams from WW2.
It's kind of a shame how modern war isn't really war compared to the past. There won't be massive tank battles like the battle of Kursk, or hundreds of thousands of infantry going for a city. Everything is boring.

Wait so "boring" wars is a bad thing? Because, you know, you would think something as bad Omaha beach or some other messy battle was extremely sad and terrible.

Of course bloody battles are horrible and I was waiting for someone to say mention heavy losses. I'm simply saying that you're most likely never going to see huge battles where both armies are clashing into each other.
Now it's just a group of soldiers waiting for a jet to drop a 2,000lb bomb on a building and everything is over. There's nothing interesting about that.

Isn't a story about 700 soldiers defending against 40,000 face-to-face something you'd like to read about?
The wehrmacht was meant to look really really cool and it was meant to make juveniles think being in the wehrmacht makes you really really badass. But let's not forget that this was all part of a carefully constructred propaganda and that these really cool men were used to raid villages to execute people by the millions. That they didn't look too badas when their frostbitten fingers snapped off in the cold of stalingrad where many realized too late that they were part of a mindless machinery to serve a madmans illusion of conquering europe.
I mean, yeah, really cool uniforms and all, but let's not glorify the fucking nazis too much, making them look all cool and shit.

There is a difference between the Wehrmacht and the SS.
There is a difference from reading stuff in some article and from hearing it from your grandparents
And everyone has a different opinion.

East front..
They dug foxholes through frozen corpses and used bodies as cover..
Biggest mistake Hitler made.

yeah, a shame he didn't team up with stalin to terrorize and runin europe like any other country under dictator leadership.
His biggest mistake was to take anti-semitism into politics and going to war. Basically everything he planned.

Sort of like every military in the world?

The Germans had the coolest looking vehicles, weapons and uniforms I have ever seen on any army. Besides the ones in WH40K of course.

I agree, but annoyingly The Netherlands never managed to finish it's tanks for the invasion, otherwise there would be more cool thanks, because they kinda look like german tanks by design.
The Dutch actually had superiour armor fielded when Germany invaded, but there were just 2 of them stationed poorly. In comparison german tanks were no match, and anti tank rifles couldn't penetrate the armor.

It's annoying to realize your own country had superiour equipment but still loses due to poor political choices.

From all of the stories I've read and footage I've seen, it makes me think that the soldiers in WWII were the last true warriors, and on top of that they had a huge motive because almost everyone was involved in the war. Today it's just join the military for college money or if you have nowhere else to go.

I agree. Everyone had a sense of pride in their country. You would never expect to see streets filled with people cheering and giving flowers to soldiers that came back from war. Each soldier must be respected regardless of what army or country they fought for.
Erwin Rommel is one arguably one of the best generals in history. The allies respected him for his capabilities. Although he was one of Hitler's favorite generals, Rommel plotted assassination attempts to kill Hitler. He fought for Germany and not Hitler. He was unsuccessful and was given the choice of suicide to spare his family, so Rommel killed himself. He led a Panzer division in Africa known as the Ghost Division because they moved swiftly. Rommel disregarded orders to kill Jews and his division was never accused of war crimes.

Do believe you guys are correct, WW2 was the last war where soliders were acutally fighting for there country to be the best. Hence World War. You don't really see the motivation you did during that war anymore.
Not HD at all but really lovely sound from some Katyushas, probably one of the scariest sounds I could imagine if you were a German soldier

I don't know.
Everyone always polishes Rommel's pecker saying he was a godly general and stuff but really a lot of what he did was "go forward. Keep going forward"
Which of course contributed to him losing Africa since when supply lines are the length of a country that's usually bad.

You don't see motivation anywhere - in war or out.
You guys are kind of buying into the whole glorified image of the war. It was not more glorious than any modern war, if anything it was worse. 60+ million people dying is not a good thing. The soldiers then are not different than the soldiers of today. My grandfather was 15 when he was drafted and forced into the Wehrmacht in 1945, my grandmother was also a teenager when she had to hide in her attic from Russian soldiers who went around raping young women after the fall of Berlin. They told me first hand what they experienced. While World War 2 is fascinating, does make for good video games, and cool videos and was a defining moment in history that shouldn't be forgotten, it's something that should be a lesson for the present and future of the horrors of war.
btw read Slaughterhouse-Five.

They don't care. They just want to see hundreds of thousands of people lined up and shooting at each other again so that millions die in a month, just for their entertainment and so they can say it was badass.
Because that's real war! It's the coolest!
-whatever-

You act as if the main point is watching millions die. That's not the case. Everyone knows how bad war is regardless of where it takes place or what era it is in. Death now is no different than death 200 years ago. It's about millions of people unified for causes they believe in. Did you see what I said about everyone cheering when soldiers return home or people on the side of streets of a liberated town? You're never going to see it again.

Skip 1 minute in. Did you see your city cheering like they are when troops were said to come back from Iraq? No, you didn't because the majority of the country knows it was a lost cause to begin with. At the end of WWII, the world celebrated.
The battles in numbers just add to the intensity and power of each army, that's all.
